Out of the Wisconsin cabin and into America’s living rooms, Bon Iver took “Flume” on the road to Conan O’Brien this past Monday for his U.S. network television debut. It’s a spacious, carefully paced performance, Justin Vernon and band as dramatic as they are dramatically lit (i.e. very much so). Something else worth noting: Vernon continues the tradition of rural sounding, vocally rich American groups not standing up when shaking Late Night hosts’s hands.

Good pronunciation, Conan. In the ongoing For Emma, Forever Ago love fest, the guys also performed four of that album’s tracks, including “Flume,” for MySpace’s “Transmission” series. There was more lighting, about as much standing.

“Flume”
“For Emma”
“Lump Sum”
“Blindsided”
You can check out an interview with Justin at the “Transmissions” MySpace.

Apparently I have been saying Bon Iver incorrectly: Bone E-Vare?

    Damn those elitist French.

Guess who stood up during a vocally rich set at Musicfest Northwest in Portland? That’s right — Mr. Robin Pecknold! Kudos Robin. I will say, Vernon and Pecknold both deserve to keep sitting after such beautiful performances. Delightful.

  4. Dear World,
I love you. You can thank Bon Iver for that later.
    Love, Luke

yeah, these sessions are some of the best in studio live performances i’ve ever seen and heard, nice – a shining gem that stands out from the vast sea of musical dreck out there

  6. it looks like justin was totally having a moment at the end of that song and then conan just storms in and shakes his hand.
    love it love it though.

  7. these guys never cease to amaze…and the recording quality from those sessions is top notch.keep up the good work guys, see you in Munich in a couple of weeks.CANT WAIT.

  8. Dude who’s drumming is Matt McCaughan, who is related to Superchunk/Merge Mac McCaughan. He also drums for the Rosebuds and Portastatic. Nice guy, I talked to him after a recent Rosebuds’ show.

See now people were telling me it should be pronounced all french. And then when the Bowerbirds were playing one of them referred to them all french. But then Justin said Bon Iver American style, so I think I will continue to say it that way. Besides its spelled wrong for the French way.
