Soon-to-be-published author Ryan Adams has set aside his copy of The Blueprint and his study of Ayn Randian fonts to share some news: The new album with the Cardinals is done, is titled Cardinology, and will be available for study on 10/28 via Lost Highway. That may or may not be the official album cover there. (Thanks either way, Matt B. Well, more if it’s legit.) Ryan’s press team’s promising it’ll be “concise,” “focused,” and “unadorned,” so I guess it’ll less Jerry Cold Roses stuff and more of the Westerberg worshipping side. He’ll celebrate by stopping into the Ed Sullivan Theatre to visit with Ryan Adams superfan Dave Letterman on 10/29. Here’s a tracklist:

01 “Fix It”
02 “Magick”
03 “Let Us Down Easy”
04 “Like Yesterday”
05 “Go Easy”
06 “Sink Ships”
07 “Born Into A Light”
08 “Cobwebs”
09 “Crossed Out Name”
10 “Natural Ghost”
11 “Evergreen”
12 “Stop”

We got a listen to a few Cardinology songs not too long ago, so study up. The first official single will be “Fix It,” out digitally on 9/23.

Ry’s book Infinity Blues is out 3/16/09, and if you preorder (starting 10/6 through Akashic), you’ll get a signed hardcover plus a “bonus poetry chapbook” by Mr. Adams titled Sad American Mythology. And by the way, Foggy’s gone (again). Now it’s just a redirect to a Cardinology mailbox? Whatever, it’s Ryan Adams.

let’s pray he doesn’t release another album before the year’s up.

  3. pfffffft  |   Posted on Sep 19th, 2008

prayer has never done anything for anyone

Wow, don’t you people ever get tired of being haters?

  5. I’m pretty sure it is the album artwork, go here:

I’m super pumped for this album.

    Long live Ryan Adams.

  6. Well, I liked Easy Tiger, and that was concise, focused, and unadorned, so my hopes are high.

The album says Ryan and the Cards… I thought this was going to be a Cardinals only release with Ryan just being in the band.

I was thinking about it when Easy Tiger came out w/o the Cardinals’ name on the cover, and it’s probably because the label, his management, etc. want to sell as many records as possible. They haven’t ever had a successful single, so people only recognize the name Ryan Adams. Unfortunately, I think an album with just “The Cardinals” on the cover wouldn’t do so well. Then again maybe some of the people that hate Ryan so much would give it a shot.

  8. Embarrassing but true: When I read this post, I shouted “Yes!” and banged on my desk. Good thing my roommates aren’t home.

terrible title. pitiful artwork. but i love ryan so im still siked!

  10. It reminds me a lot of the old atari logo. I kind of like it. Anyhow, I heard four or five new songs at the boston show and i think this album could be quite good. I can understand why people don’t like Ryan Adams, but i think since getting sober he’s really back on track in terms of quality songwriting and great live performances.

  13. Nonyadamn biz  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2008

I heard the entire album. Its gonna floor the haters.

    • How did you hear it?

      • Noneyadamn.biz  |   Posted on Sep 24th, 2008

All I’ll say, without sounding like an elitist dick, is that i got to hear the album in an office before it was sequenced. WOW-WEEE. I remember the first comment being after the listening session, “Sonically, Ryan has finally grown into the sound he was seeking all these years.” & “The arrangements he’s now using are stunning!”

  14. louis  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2008

how can you hate ryan… he makes better art and music than 99.9% of the garbage this site puts up… i know hating is fun, but really, pick on the bands that are here simply because of blog world, not the real guys that get out there and do it for real

  15. I made a post on the new Ryan Adams video out today and the new album. Check it out, thanks! http://temporarybattles.blogspot.com/

  16. I’ve never heard Rock n Roll or Easy Tiger or Gold or any actual Ryan Adams release. I don’t read his blogs, I don’t give a shit about his supposed posturing or “sellout”ness.

But I have The Suicide Handbooks and I absolutely love quite a few of those songs.

    And that’s enough for me.

    this is SUCH good news.

ryan adams makes my fanboyness worth it for sure.

  19. ryan adams isnt about the his cover art – so all you pansies who wear skinny jeans, go listen to fall out boy – and compare waist sizes with pete wentz. This is REAL music and not a pose to get into People magazine. R Adams is the only one doing it RIGHT these days. We have to many panty-wastes trying to look hip and not enough is going into the music. It makes me sick. Cant wait to see you in again in Columbus, Ryan.

  20. I guess RA reconciled with the internet…. Foggy is back and is as nonsensical as ever.

  21. Brett  |   Posted on Sep 23rd, 2008

“Panty-waste” or not ( I consider myself to not be one) I think the cover art could be better. I like Ryan Adams… I consider myself at least a casual fan. But he’s had more interesting album covers. He may be doing “REAL music” but people can appreciate good design just like they appreciate good music. It’s all art to some degree. I’m really looking forward to this album (based on that bootleg mentioned in the post) but I cringed when I saw that “cover art.”

  22. the name and cover art for this one make it look like a box set or a greatest hits or somethin

  23. The art work is ugly…Hoping for something prettier, hoping that Ryan has a graphic designer friend somewhere…. BUT I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM. Seriously.

  24. Erin  |   Posted on Oct 7th, 2008

I lovvveee Ryan Adams, I just recently went to his concert and it was amazing!
    Fuck you, haters.
