More specifically, Alden Penner (aka Alden Ginger, aka not Nick Thorburn) and ex-Arcade Firer Brendan Reed plus other Montreal musicians Ben Borden, Lisa Gamble, and Nick Scribner. Supposedly their live shows involve multiple drummers and “a bent Commodore 64,” but I haven’t seen it, so nothing’s verified. The group formed in 2007, laid low by not starting a MySpace page of Facebook (whoa), and are releasing their debut on hometown label Constellation in Spring 2009. You can take a listen to album track “Perfect Fit,” which takes after its horned father, though with some bigger dynamics in the vocal line and instrumental breakdowns.

Look for their album on Constellation. Additionally, Alden runs VillaVillaNola.com, an online music store focusing on Montreal artists. Get shopping. Or, just check out Clues on the road:

  2. this song is good!

  3. nice. who will cut out hair is still one of my favourite records.

  4. It’s sad that resisting networking websites like myspace or facebook is considered laying low… But then again, those are very useful tools to get your music out.
