Sweetheart: Our Favorite Artists Sing Our Favorite Long Songs is the latest in the line of blockbuster compilations that’s been crowding up your RSS feeds. This one is special because it benefits the destitute shareholders of the Starbucks corporation, which now qualifies as a post-economic meltdown charity case. The tracklist is tight. Not all the songs are new (you can hear Death Cab’s take on the Cure’s “Love Song” 11 months ago if you want), but A.C. Newman’s take on “Take On Me” seems good and fresh. Literally.
Sweetheart: Our Favorite Artists Sing Our Favorite Long Songs available via Starbucks.

1 song that didn’t need to be covered. nice try
Carl has done a fine job with this
wow, this is awful. fail.
you know what? fuck you idiots who can’t handle someone who has a different opinion than your own. i don’t like this song. fuck off.
Suck me, Susan.
Cap’n Jazz’s cover of “Take On Me” kicks the original version and this pathetic cover in the teeth
Cap’n Jazz version is better fo sho.
docj…i, for some reason, went and listened to the cap’n jazz version and had to come back here just to say…man, i think that was total shit…making it clear that this song just doesn’t need to be covered. morten and the guys did it right the first time and everyone since then has blown.
I was blown away with Newman’s first album, but everything since has been so Bleh. Has he lost his charm?
yes, back with electric version in 2003.
SKETCHY ARM!

Between his First album, his amazing second album, his New Pornographers work which has produced 4 great albums without fail, and this great cover, AC Newman is one of the greats of our musical times. Rock on AC. Rock on.
Bleh.
Get the Rogue Wave cover of “Maps” up on here
i really enjoyed this. good cover.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this as well. Take On Me is one of my favorite songs. This has inspired me to check out AC’s new album.
listen for this during the climax of an upcoming gossip girl episode.
not too shabby
i like the production and i was digging it muchly up until carl’s falsetto kicks-in in the chorus
but hey how can you ever really hate anything that ginger cuite does?!
this is the dan in real life version of take on me
Original version ftw.
SNORRRRRRRRRRReeeeee. (breath) snoOOOOrrreeee
I don’t support pornography, especially new pornography. And I certainly won’t support this guy.
Love New Pron, but this cover is rather weak.
@ Ron Jenkins
I used to hate them because of their band name
but I totally in love with all the pornography song
He didn’t need to remake the song; he needed to remake the video
take on me is indeed a really great song, but i didn’t like ac newman’s latest solo album and even with fantastic material such as this he just sounds uninspired.
That was a damn good cover.
Not too bad. Mr. Newman does have a bit of talent.
“Take On Me” was never meant to have any acoustic guitar involved in it… took all the 80′s out of it… FOR SHAME!
Didn’t Reel Big Fish fish this well dry like ten years ago?
You don’t have fish in a well numbnuts
wow that was fucking terrible. another pretentious cover by another fail pretentious “indie” artist.
Do people even know what pretentious means anymore these days?
No
i doubt many
I’m kinda bummed this came out, because a buddy of mine did a great cover of this tune last year – Hello India Calling. – and I really dig that version (it’s at http://www.myspace.com/helloindiacalling if anyone’s interested)
This version is distinct from that one, though, and I love both the major crescendo chorus here and the nicely composed breakdown. This guy has his hands in a lot of pies, and they’re all tastier for it
take out the acoustic guitar & AC’s voice, and its beautiful.
You guys crack me up!!
Was a nice rendition. I heard it today at taco bell and came online lookin for it
I hear this at work and wanted to know who killed this song!
Horrible job at covering a really great tune!
