So Kanye’s VH1 Storytellers aired, and sadly it wasn’t quite as much the best VH1 Storytellers as we’d hoped. It was entertaining, because it was Kanye, but lighter on the storytelling than expected. Then again, that’s what happens when all the crazy shit you say winds up on the editing room floor. What made the telecast was West speaking over the music as songs ended. Call it VH1 Vaguely Associated Extemporaneous Rambling. As we reported last week, some of Kanye’s controversial comments were cut, but there were still plenty of awkward moments. For example, go to 4:50 on “Flashing Lights”:

Yikes. Anyway. This rearranged “Love Lockdown” is a web-only bit that wasn’t included for broadcast:

And here’s “Robocop,” apparently inspired in part by Tenacious D?

I wish they made Kanye Chia Pets.

  3. Couldn’t hit the high notes on Love Lockdown this time either. Kanye, you don’t surprise.

  4. I like this version of “Flashing Lights”, and also this instrumentation of “Love Lockdown”, the problem is that Kanye isn’t abble to sing with or without the help of vocoder… It’s quite ackward sometimes. “Robocop” is very cool live, way better than the cd version imo. I still enjoy his music, but it would be great if I could shut up his mouth (4:50 lol)….

  5. Everyone could benefit from being a little more like Kanye

  6. this was so boring. hed do a song and then ramble about absolutely nothing for 10 minutes. also oj simpson is amazing

  7. The part about his Mom was really sad. My friend kept texting me saying she was convinced he was in the middle of a nervous breakdown.

thats how all artists are. a little bit zanny, with a touch of insanity. the reason kanye looks so damn human is because you don’t stop probing into his life. the best thing an artist can do is be as ambigious as possible, that way we can create him in our own minds and glamousize him..

why is radiohead god like? cause you don’t know shit about them. Well not them personally.

I thoroughly enjoyed the “story” at the end of his performance of Touch the Sky:

Skip to about 5:00 if you don’t feel the need to listen to the song, but you will get to here him harmonize, it’s what he loves to do.
Those words are pretty inspirational. If only I heard more of these “inspirational” words during the glow and the dark tour.

this was actually pretty awesome!! I never saw anything from the glow in the dark tour, but the visuals alone make these videos worth watching…

and undoubtedly the most awkward part is when he talks in the middle of amazing

Ugh, shut up Kanye. Why is he always on a soap box. People just want to hear his music not his incoherent ramblings and crazy-man rantings.

I love Kanye, his nuttiness included. I really enjoyed the live versions of these songs. Thanks for posting them!

Uhhh…he’s on a soapbox talking because the name of the show is VH1 Storytellers dipshit….and they asked him to be on it and do what he did, he didn’t campaign to do it…chances are nobody likes reading you comments while your on your soapbox behind your computer keyboard but guess what? Here you are flappin your gums, not realizing that people don’t actually care what you have to say and they actually do care what he says….sucks to be you Lydia
