Earlier we posted a couple new songs St. Vincent debuted at NoisePop last week. The folks at Wolfgang’s Vault captured Deerhunter’s set in its entirety from “Born To Run” to a bits from Cryptograms and Microcastle through to the extended exeunt, which marks the final or four new tracks. One of the newbies, the spare, marching-paced “Famous Last Words,” is maybe the closest you’ll ever come (maybe) to hearing Deerhunter do a Strokes song. As a bit of local flavor, toward the end of the performance, Harvey Milk gets a “Hazel St.” dedication. “Never Stops” is in there, of course. The set’s over 50 minutes long, so sit back and let Deerhunter soundtrack the snowdrifts outside your window.

I live in Southern California, the only thing drifting by my window is the smell of the barbecue my neighbors are cooking up.
When did it happen again? When became Deerhunter so good? I remember seeing them on their first Euro-Tour bakc in October 2007, they were pretty good, very noisy; Saw them again @ Primavera last summer and suddenly they were the best fuckin’ band i’ve ever heard. And then Microcastle came and it was even better than this concert… So tell me: When did it happen?
Constant touring has tightened them up. They will melt your face off now.
They’ve been melting faces for years. I remember seeing them in Athens in 06 and after the set nobody moved or said a word. Bradford said “Is that what you expected!? Huh!?” Then threw done the mic and walked off.
The setlist picture is ours…

this is an essential listen/watch for any deerhunter fan… that was amazing, bradford shredding on nothing ever happened was very enjoyable. their live show is great now, this just shows how great
I’m bored of this band and the lead singer is a dick

i see bradford has been pumping some serious iron.
really? the first time i listened to agoraphobia i thought it sounded pretty strokes-y. if a new song sounds even more like the strokes i’d imagine there is a good chance they will keep moving in this direction so it is quite a doubtful statement to suggest that we won’t hear anything else by deerhunter that sounds a bit like the strokes, although i notice you included the qualifier maybe which is probably appropriate but doesn’t change the essential nature of the prediction
i think he’s doing more pavement-inspired pop improv than necessarily playing new songs. which is much better.
That whole Castro St. performance would’ve been so much cornier if it weren’t a great performance.
Bradford Cox to stage production team: “I must be shrouded in fog as I emerge from the shadows guitar in hand, looking like an alien life-form descending from his crash-landed saucer or a ghost emerging from a covert swamp. Only then will the crowd really be bathed in the atmosphere that is, and can only be described as, Deerhoof!”
Haha *Deerhunter!
No wonder people didn’t like that comment so much!
the real question is why they didn’t like my comment, it’s all true
Its not the full set, they came out after and did Microcastle, a 12+ minute long version of Lake Somerset and a 10 minute version of Calvary Scars II. It melted my brain out through my nose. I really wish that encore would pop up on video, it might have been the best Ive ever seen them live out of the dozen or so times Ive seen them.
