Pennsylvanian avant-folk trio Akron/Family make the jump from Young God Records to Dead Oceans with their fifth LP, Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free, this spring. With a rubbery groove and motormouth chanting, opening track “Everyone Is Guilty” is the album’s schizophrenic monster jam. Seth Olinsky, Miles Seaton, and Dana Janssen go on all sorts of funky tangents here, melding sludgy solos with a lumbering brass breakdown and, in the final minute, some really pretty orchestration. Best part: when the song abruptly stops and restarts four and a half minutes in.
The single is on sale now via iTunes/7″ and keep an eye out for AK AK at SXSW. Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free is out 5/5 on Dead Oceans.

Mouthwatering.
i fucking love this band. I think this album should be a contender with both Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective, but i know it won’t. I also considered Love is Simple to be my favourite album of 2007, but nobody recognized that one either. I don’t get it. This band is unbelievable.
nice to see a band come out with guns blazing.
Are their live shows any good? I like their albums a lot…

except this new album is sans guitar player with ponytail, which is a good move, aesthetically.
Wow. I’ve hit the play button three times in a row, just sitting at my desk, mouth agape for the last fifteen minutes. Can’t wait for May.
unfortunately there a leak out there, and unfortunately ive heard it, and unfortunately its amazing. unfortunately.
where is this leak you speak of?

Sounds like Phish/Jam Bandy stuff.
Bros will love this
akon is such a pervert. did you see that video with the preacher’s daughter? no thank-you.
this album is so fucking satisfying.
this is good song, but it’s probably the album’s weakest and not very representative of the rest of the record.
i hope this album blows up, it deserves to. many ghosts is the best.
I liked their last album, but man… what is this? a 6 minute track with a highly annoying 1 minute repetitive intro? Disappointed.
