Bill Callahan settled in Plano, Texas last summer to record second solo LP Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle. He completed basic tracking in four sleepless days, then handed the tapes off to arranger Brian Beattie. In a recent Progress Report, Bill explained his songwriting process: “I’m more about literal meaning or clarity. I pretty much have to write the lyrics first and completely before I can try to set it to music with a pure heart. I feel like a traitor otherwise.” Along those lines, the new songs — particularly album standout “Eid Ma Clack Shaw” — sound grounded in the mourning of a real life relationship. “I dreamed it was a dream that you were gone / I woke up feeling so ripped by reality.” Take a listen.
Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle is out 4/14 on Drag City.

This is something that I enjoy listening to with my ears.
“HOWWWW” can one man seemingly never run out of fucking great material. This is yet another Callahan-masterpeice. “All these memories are fucking me down”..
So honest.
His lyrics keep getting better with each release.
WAAAAH!! YEAH!
Oh my God, I just feel like the mother of the world breaking horses… by the way, I don’t want to sound like a queer or nothing (once again) but I find Bill Callahan so handsome that if I was Joanna Newsom, I’d let him do me… several times… in an hour!
^ one Joanna Newsom is more than enough for this world, thank you.
back when i was nine years old my dad used to make me dress up as bill callahan for him and he’d pretend he was chan marshall; we’d play like bank robbers and whenever we’d finish robbing a town of everything they had he’d yelp “I was a stranger, they don’t come much stranger!”
When I was seven I told my mother to take me to the bay and put me on a ship.
I love you chase
Chevy?
Alone in my room I feel such warmth for the community.
i feel like a robot by the river
there is no reason for someone to be this damn good
Just wait till you hear the last track off the album…..faith/void. Brilliant cd!!!!
As told in Eid Ma Clack Shaw, the lyrics of his “perfect song” he wroite in his dream were “hard to read”, Given the intelligence of the other lyrics I was wondering if those phrases have any meaning. The song is amazing even if it is gibberish, but he seems capbable of adding another layer to his song. Also, Paste listed his home as Austin, but has he settled in Plano?
all thoughts are prayed to zombies.
Any one know if Mr Callhan has any gigs upcoming? I’m in Scotland so probably nowhere close……….however, have love will travel……………
