The title track to the Thermals’ Now We Can See is an incessantly catchy pop anthem about progression, evolution, realization, etc., and there is no better way to play on the concept of enlightenment than filming your band in various shades of visibility. OK maybe there are better ways, but still the Thermals stay with their proven methodology of fun and performance-incorporating videos, one minute being shot in the dark, the others in a brightly lit posterized rehearsal room and then also the room where Hutch takes off his shirt and has movies projected on his skin. Now we can see, indeed.

Now We Can See is out today via Kill Rock Stars. Here are some fun photos of the band at Club de Ville in Austin.

This is the first time I’ve actually seen the band, and I had no idea Hutch was so effeminate. I always figured he was some sorta tough guy, judging by his voice.

    Not that I’m complaining.

  2. I think I like this band. Thanks for posting about them. At some parts, the singing reminds me of Cake’s talk-sing style.

  3. I like this song and all, but it kinda sounds like their other songs mushed together

  4. The Thermals are undoubtedly awesome, but this video is meh.

isnt this just a slowed down version of that ‘pillar of salt’ song? that tune is great, so i suppose it’s not the worst thing to recycle, but…
