On a whim I checked in with Breakfast At Sulimay’s, the amusing Web video series in which three elderly music fans review indie and hip-hop singles over coffee at a Philadelphia diner. Turns out another episode was uploaded just yesterday. Remember when Ann, Joe, and Bill panned Animal Collective and it was adorable? You’re gonna love these latest segments which include cranky critiques of Dan Deacon’s “Snookered,” Bat For Lashes’ “Glass,” and Bon “Eye-vur”‘s “Blood Bank.” One actually gets a good review. Guess which one!
Dan Deacon & Doves
Eminem & Bat For Lashes
Common & Bon Iver
Here ya go, gramps:
Dirty Projectors next, please.

Watch the condescending language.
I love Breakfast At Sulimay’s… except for that annoying bitch. The two guys are great though… they’re usually right on the money.
lissen, old peepul frum philly don’t wanna hear dis shit, ay’d say “go over dere to jersey if you wanna hear dis music, leave us alone” and den throw dis shit inna wooder. i know dis cuz my parents are frum philly and dey say dis shit to me evry day
do dey speak wike a fwuckin retawd too?
unfortunately, they do
yo dave, go fuck yiz self
I swear yankees love to hear themselves talk
You don’t know romance, Joe!
It’s pretty awesome that Joe’s complaint was that they focused too much on the drums/percussion in “Blood Bank” — a song with no drums or percussion.
yea he was right on the money with that one.
“It’s not Rascal Flatts, but it’s pretty good!”
Best line.
I like the ” ’cause I’m a saaad person” comment
it’s Doves, lady. Doves.
Oh be nice :) I’m sure plenty of people “our” age make the same mistake, just like people did when referring to Cocteau Twins as The Cocteau Twins or Ramones as The Ramones – but if perfection precedes us, so be it :)
Ta Ta For Now…
“I Like it, cause I’m a sad person.”
Watching old people listen to sad music is depressing.
“Generic American Idol.” what?
“i like it, cause i’m a sad person”
Well, they’re right about one thing. Doves are a country and western band… from Wilmslow, England.
Thank you for doing this. Love it.
Not to discount your opinion or anything, but there is a steady floor tom in the background and some faint cymbal sweeping. ‘Blood Bank’ is actually pretty driven by that steady rhythm.
But Joe should probably go back to 1943; he’d be much happier and less jaded.
this whole concept makes me uncomfortable…
The best is definitely Joe comparing Eminem to Gilbert & Sullivan
love these videos. keep em coming, gents.
I could watch Joe’s face as he listens to music for hours.
A dot orger on stereogum!
i think that Joe usually has some very insightful comments on the music. my favorite thing about this, though, is how concentrated Bill and Joe are when they listen to the music. I think this is outstanding, they should do deerhunter next.
Haha oh dear the world will never be the same…
we do breakfast at sulimays here at woodshopfilms.com
check out more of our shit at scrapple.tv
you will love smut cave ….. trippin balls , dead today our obituary show
thanks for the great comments joe rocks !
Bill should be on more shows; or perhaps just one show, about him shutting down Ann over and over. I’d watch that.
I remember watching them do a thermals song a long long time ago, they didn’t like it much haha. That woman is so disturbing.
I like how Joe compares Eminem and Dre to Gilbert and Sullivan. I always thought that “Encore” was just like “The Mikado.”
I love this series. Joe is always insightful but usually Ann and Bill don’t really give much a chance, specially Bill.
They should do a video where Joe explains what IS his cup of tea.
“you have to control yourself anne”
Joe is my favorite. He honestly says what’s on his mind and is not afraid to express his reasons for liking or disliking a song.
It takes balls to be that old and be open-minded about current music.
Ann is infuriating.
I am glad Ann is not my grandmother.
“It’s not Rascal Flats, but it’s pretty good”
Bill suffers from the most intense existential meltdown two minutes into Dan Deacon. It must be hell inside that mind.
Ann’s face from 3:06-3:08 is the best in the bon iver video. Thats probably what alot of people do when they hear him for the first time.
The lady’s face at the beginning of Universal Mind Control (1:01) is priceless.
DIDDY DIDDY BANG BANG!
I love how Ann flip-flops on Bon Iver, first saying how great it is, and 15 seconds later, calling it “generic American Idol”.
If you haven’t watched the other episodes yet, for sure see their takes on Beirut/Sepultura and Young Jeezy/Animal Collective.
“ta ta for now” i lol’d
joe knows.
“No doubt he plays the Moog…or one of those instruments.”

hank, merle, and doves. not in that order.
I guess now we know what Paula Abdul will be like in 20 years.
hahahahahahaha, no, the best part is Ann calling the Eminem song “cute” and a “sing-along.” Really? You want to sing with Eminem? Did you ACTUALLY hear the lyrics? Doubtful. Ann goes on to say “I liked all of the words in it” and she could understand this kind of rap. Of course you can….. But wait! It won’t catch on because it had some “cute names like Sarah Palin in it.” Haha, you’re right of course Ann. Never mind Eminem is a world-renown rapper or anything.
does ann ever shut up and stop talking during the songs? no wonder she hardly ever likes anything, she’s talking the whole time!
That old guy Joe does not like tea.
