Apropos of nothing beyond a compulsive need to be releasing material all the time, Bloc Party follow up last year’s rush-release of Intimacy and this year’s Intimacy Remixed with this stand-alone nugget, recorded in April with longtime BP associate Jacknife Lee and mixed by Phillipe Zdar. It’s more house influenced than anything the band’s done yet (check the piano’s bounce, the four-to-the-floor kick), Kele still sounding like Kele, and Russell dialing down his art guitars to fit the backdrop’s shift, before he dials back in to close it out like some sort of new wave/house blend.

“One More Chance” is out 8/10 via Wichita Recordings. The song premiered on the Zane Lowe show, and after its airing Kele told the Radio 1 host that he was in the studio but couldn’t “tell you anything” more about it. Tease. In the meantime, here’s how the guys looked when they were at the Hollywood Palladium some weeks back.

  1. Not my favorite Bloc Party song… but still solid Bloc Party nonetheless.

Love the song, and absolutely love this band. and for the record, I’m really fucking over the bullshit ‘backlash’ they’ve endured from bitchy blog commentors. They fucking kill it live, and are still writing amazing tunes.

  3. Not my favourite Bloc Party track but I like the fact that the band don’t follow the traditions and instead release tracks and albums as and when they see fit.

  4. My god, talk about an earworm. I listened to it once, and yet Kele’s voice has been ringing in my head for the last hour.

A safe, average BP song, doesn’t push the boundaries too far but it is VERY catchy. I love the piano part, it sounds very different to how BP have used the instrument in the past. They seem to be trying to get a club-type vibe for the song, but I really yearn for the Silent Alarm days….still damn proud of them though!

  6. less house, more rock plz

they still kill it live, it’s true, but they really need to remember that they started as a rock band

This band used to be good, what happened? Have they not heard of a little thing called side projects? I’m sick of bands that change their style to reach a bigger audience when they get a taste of fame *cough* Death Cab *cough* and this band is one of them. That’s why you have side projects to get rid of the crappy lyric writing and cheesy electronic songs. I’m debating whether intimacy was as bad as that new piece of shit Discovery LP from two lead singers of the top bands around, but this isn’t even a debate, It’s worse. Which is saying a lot because I absolutely hate that lp, but this is just nothing. Not only is this song horrible, it sounds like something the bravery or some emo band would put out with some drugged up shitty rave dj from 1994. Love inc hooks? This is one disappointing summer for music so far, thank the music gods for Phoenix.

    • i would say bloc party’s audience has not gotten any bigger as a result of change in style. They certianly aren’t on the cover of “teen beat” or “teen dream” or whatever you “teens” are into.
Let me tell you what happens when you keep making the same music – you’re in oasis, dojaknowimean?

  8. I would like to listen but your banner ads are insisting I hear Regina Spektor instead SHUT UP FOR A MOMENT REGINA OKAY.

  9. loved the song!
this music by bloc pary may be released very quickly but its really good
i like it, it may be not a bad thing.. i mean… Beck has been releasing music very fast and every new album is way better than the previous :)
