So far it seem like folks’ favorite No One’s First And You’re Next-related track was the slippery 6-minute “Whale Song.” Well satisfied fans, the mid-tempo Big Easy horn howler “Perpetual Motion Machine” takes Brock and Co. into a pretty different direction. As far as context, the eight-song No One’s First And You’re Next is out 8/4 via Epic. “Perpetual Motion Machine” will be backed by “History Sticks To Your Feet” on the official 7″ single. Modest Mouse are on tour this summer. Johnny Marr’s busy with Cribs, of course, so they’ll be joined by ex-Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild instead.

The Nation of Ulysses song is better, since it’s about abusing Robitussin.

  3. Johnny Marr is not touring with MM this summer? Uh oh. Suddenly the tickets I have for the Chicago show don’t look so good.

Not bad, not bad at all. But this trend of singles lately means the B-side is going to be BADASS.

Fairchild, Fairchild, how are you man? Did you fix that storefront? Did you start that band?

  7. This is amazing. Reminds me of Ugly Cassanova.. I REALLY hope they continue in this direction. Wonky Tom Waits-esque indie rock? Drooling..
