The Dr. Who-and-Blondie nodding single “Uprising” is the linchpin to Muse’s The Resistance, Bellamy getting bellicose about the prospect of a brave new world you only thought we were sidestepping with the election of Obama because, whoa, political songs can be about other countries, too. The video has the trio blasting their anti-mind-control fight song from the back of a pickup truck in a post-apocalyptic world (you know it is so because of the welding machine sparks everywhere). Things burn, a giant teddy bear tramples the town, Muse will be victorious, and Glenn Beck approves but only because he doesn’t get it.

The Resistance is out 9/14 via Warner Bros.

  1. I was kinda meh on the song previously, not the best of the album IMO, but this vid definitely improves it with it’s ridiculosity…

  2. I wish they used the full version of the song, if only to give the giant teddy bears more screen time.

I officially like this album now. It’s good.

  4. Rock & Roll Part 2, Part 2.

  5. A video about rising against the “fat cats”. The same fat cats that gave MUSE hundreds of thousands of dollars to make this bloated video in the first place.

  6. These guys are consistently switching up their style and every time…they do a fairly good job.
Although sometimes I do wish that they would go back to the days of Origin of Symmetry and Absolution.

    • Switching up their style? This sounds exactly like every other single they’ve released.

    • I agree, this album does sound different than their previous work. This Resistance seems to be the orchestral album – lots of strings. Black Holes… had a lot of electronic/dance tinges to it, and Absolution/Origin were very much guitar albums. While at the same time sill sounding very Muse-like.

This sounds NOTHING like Sing For Absolution or Bliss. So no, it doesn’t sound like all the other singles.

  8. Sounds vaguely Ultravox-ish to me. Could have been a track off of Vienna.. Not that it’s a bad thing.

  9. I’m hearing a lot of Depeche Mode here. Seriously, sounding like Depeche Mode is fairly popular these day.

  10. They were asked to lip syc this song at a taping for a show in Italy. Pretty funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oTt8Noi5Rk

  11. Let me say that I love Muse and have seen them live and it was amazing. I am all for good music getting its due and becoming popular..as long as the artist or artists don’t sell out. That would be lame. But, to add to Ted’s post about the hypocrisy, it is true that they are signed to Warner Bros. Records and have huge recording contracts, but as long as they have complete artistic control over their music, who cares? Muse want to keep their integrity as a band and make music they want to make. I also want to point out a bit of irony in that when Muse played the VMAs I love how their song Uprising talks about people not being controlled, but they are playing on MTV..just kinda funny but it contradicts what i just said. Just funny..nothing really behind it though
