AC’s anticipated filmic collaboration with director Danny Perez, “an earthy, psychedelic experimental narrative infused with [the band's] aural and musical sensibilities,” debuts at Sundance somewhere between 01/21-31. Book your flight to Utah.

i am so tired of this band and their pretentious bullshit. please tell me i am not the only one.
ditto on that one !
you are they only one. this band is great and at least they are trying something different which cannot be said for the millions of bands out today that sound exactly the same.

You’re probably not the only one, but I personally couldn’t disagree with you more.
Pretentious? I mean I can get how people might not like some of Animal Collective’s less accessable music, but Animal Collective don’t really seem like pretentious dudes..a lot of ACs fans are pretentious, but just read interviews with Panda Bear or the lyrics of “Bros.” AC are some pretty down to earth people.
The lyrics to Bros are quite besides the point…I mean I knew what the song meant quite well even without them…there’s a real art and technique to making music that way…something 95% of the people who do it or write about it fail to realise…
pretentious is definitely not the right word. i like animal collective and understand why some people wouldn’t like their music (or their hype) but i have to admit, i am expecting something like an hour and half of animal collective wacky music video, and that doesn’t really float my boat. hope they prove me wrong.
whether you dig their music or not, you cannot argue with the fact that AC deserves a ton of credit for what they’ve been doing. Cheers to a band that consistantly built up cred under the radar, then “blew up” (as far as the indie world goes), and still continues to actually get better.
they don’t follow fashions in the music they make (they do what they do, and have set trends that other artists are copping), they dont follow in what they look like (they’re still the same suburban hippie-ish looking dudes they always were, no skinny jeans and keffiyeh scarves, etc)…they’re true to themselves and are extrememly down to earth guys.
Ok, so their music has gotten more “accessible”, which personally, I have no problem with. it’s some of the best shit out there…”what would i want sky” is the fuckin joint.
I think more people will “get” the music seeing it on the screen…It’s dangerous though…Next thing you know they’ll be reading the russians as well…
I don’t think they’re pretentious in the least bit.
However, don’t expect this to be a movie with ‘catchy’ jams, per se. Apparently they’ve been working on it for a few years and it’s “very out there”.
all the Animal Collective backlash lately is annoying as hell. people are tripping all over themselves to say they suck. how `bout you just put on your Coldplay record and go back to ignoring them like you did for the last ten years.
The music is what i’m excited for on this, they’ve never played any of it yet. And it won’t sound like anything they’ve put out yet. But the combination of the audio and visuals will be sure to blow me away when this is released. I am quite interested to see what the ac guys have to reveal about that sense of music.
as previously mentioned, i’m sure there are groups of people who listen to animal collective and are themselves pretentious, but the band? the band is open to so many different types of people, they don’t fix on one trend or type. it is far too large a generalization to say that the band are pretentious. listen to the lyrics to My Girls, for example.
you’re the only one, just listen (a friendly advice)
All of you need to stop disrespecting Animal Collective, they are by far one of the best bands that are producing music right now, and as someone who saw ODDSAC, and was a fan before, they are only getting, better more surreal and beautiful, nothing they do is “pretentious”.
