As Scott noted the other day, the new Goldfrapp sounds like the Pointer Sisters. This is true. It’s the opening song from the British group’s fifth studio album Head First, which follows 2008′s Seventh Tree. And, as the cloudy pastel Alison Goldfrapp dreamscape cover pic (and lettering) suggests, on top of the Sisters, there’s a hint of Xanadu-style Olivia Newton-John/ELO going on in this one. (The official “Rocket” cover art’s dramatically lit, too.)

Head First is out 3/22 via Mute. The “Rocket” single is out 3/8. It includes the original and remixes by Richard X, Penguin Prison, Grum, and TiĆ«sto as well as a Kim Gehrig-directed video. The cover looks like this:

  1. I’ve been listening to a lot of Pointer Sisters this month (I am weird), so this was sorta right on time.

  2. Almost makes me want to put on leg warmers and bop around.

When Goldfrapp started out, they were very experimental and then delved into a couple of electronic albums. But with this album and the last, I’m glad they’re getting back to experimenting–even if it’s with different genres (or eras).

that cover is quite a downgrade from records past, and looks like that fucking adam lambert cd that stares at me from the cvs counter… good song though.

  5. waiting Goldfrapp ? Rocket (Tiesto Remix) ;DDD

  6. This isn’t anything special when we are speaking of Goldfrapp. It just didn’t click with me. Maybe I should put on some old Pointer Sisters records
