Had enough Yeasayer this week? There’s one more stop on the Odd Blood media-saturated goodwill tour we’re checking in with this morning, that being the trio (plus drummer + multi-instrumentalist + light orb/display thing) braving last night’s Snowpocalypse in the city and bringing “Ambling Alp” to 30 Rock. (Part of a good one-two for Jimmy, who hosts Neon Indian tonight.) After the band’s track-by-track dissection of the LP posted yesterday, you know the song is about (and named after the nickname) of the 1930s Italian boxer Primo Carnera, a not-so-formidable foe of Joe Lewis (the Brown Bomber knocked him out in 6). And after this performance on Fallon, you know what Chris Keating looks like in a suit. (Which is to say, a better look than hugging a koala.) The A/V flips out of sync on this video three minutes in or so, we’ll update when there’s a better version. Have a watch for yourself, son (ugh sorry):

Odd Blood is an album. Yeasayer’s taking a week or so then heading to Europe with Javelin, and back in the States for dates with Sleigh Bells. Tour dates here.

UPDATE: The Yeasayer remix parade continues with this turn from the Very Best:

Thanks for the heads up, Fader.

The drummer looks bored, uninterested, or just disenchanted. Perhaps he’s pissed because he thought they were going to be on conan and had to settle. Its a stark contrast to the energy of everyone else.

  2. I agree! It’s really frustrating and annoying. But if don’t like Yeasayer, the whole thing does. But I like this song.

that link for the track by track doesn’t go anywhere?

  5. The drummer is just grooving. If you look at other live videos, you’ll notice that is his look. I highly prefer chill drummers to bullshit power-pop drummers who can’t close their fucking mouths and every time they hit a cymbal I want to hit them.

  7. Happy they played Ambling Alp and not Mondegreen…

  8. What is it with this week? Yeasayergum? (Just kidding. Love this band, video, song, album, etc.)

If you don’t like Yeasayer you’re not a fun person.

Scott: I was a fun person until Odd Blood.

  13. Finally got around to checking out Oddblood this week. It started out fun, but it wore thin pretty quickly. Regardless, “Ambling Alp” is a fun song that I have not gotten sick of yet. The Pitchfork feature in which they showed them recording it was hilarious: when you hear the vocals being recorded without the music, you can’t help but laugh at their over-the-top delivery. That voice is just too much to take except in small doses.
