Norwegian Death Metal

Working on 100 Most Metal Moments has reignited my interest in Norwegian Death Metal. Ever hear of the band Mayhem?

IN 1991, MAYHEM’S SINGER, IRONICALLY NAMED "DEAD," COMMITED SUICIDE AND THEIR GUITARIST, EURONYMOUS, COOKED DEAD’S BRAIN AND ATE IT. MEANWHILE, DRUMMER HELLHAMMER MADE A NECKLACE OUT OF DEAD’S SKULL FRAGMENTS. TWO YEARS LATER THE BASSIST, COUNT GRISHNACKH, GOT IN ON THE ACTION AND KILLED THE CANNIBALIST GUITAR PLAYER.

First of all, their names are awesome! Please call me Count Grishnackh from now on. Second, they're only #69 on the list! Mayhem is totally #1 in my book -- you can't get more metal than the guitarist eating the lead singer.

And these guys are still putting out albums! The current line-up includes Necrobutcher, Blasphemer, Hellhammer, and Maniac on vocals.

Also. The bassist killed the guitar player supposedly because he had shamed the scene by wearing a white sweater. For realz.

Reading about the antics of those bands is SO much more interesting than actually listening to any of them.

Metal rulez! \m/

It sounds too crazy to be true. You read that like some grotesque story, but then read about sentencing of the band members and it is a little too real.

In the mountains of Norway,
where the weather is cold,
there's nothing to do,
except kill each other,
and play guitars in the snow

This is the same band that was given shit about a year or two ago for throwing a sheep's head into the audience and konking some fan. They are truly excellent.

I sent this link to my friend Robert, who is hideously into all things bad metal, and he says that, not only is this old news, but that they're BLACK metal, not death metal.

I wish my name was Dead. Mayhem is the best black (not death) metal band aside from Darkthrone. Although their offstage acts are more entertaining than their music. Ha ha ha ha!

Mayhem SUCK now, they've sucked since Varg killed Euronymous. Varg is a crazy person, by the way, and not even for murdering his bandmate because he wanted to be just as nekro, kvlt and grim...

let's not forget that the cardigans' former band was a death metal band that would sacrifice goats on stage.

I once sucked an old mans cock in the park for a half of a quart of warm malt liquor. I was 13, and thirsty. Now I'm 39, and I regret it. Ah, those were the days!!!!

when i was 5 years old, a bully nieghbor picked on me and my little brother. the bully was 7. he beat my brother up and bloodied his lip and nose. i told this bully that i knew where there was treasure in the woods nearby, and he made me show him where it was. there was no treasure. but there was a hornets nest half expose from the ground. i threw the bastard right into the hole, and the hornets went crazy. they swarmed on him and stung the shit out of him. i ran like hell and laughed all the way home. he was extremely allergic to wasp and bee stings, and died out in the woods. nobody found him until three days later.lol.that was my first kill.
