Stream New Ryan Adams - You Are The Audience ...

Never mind the bollocks here's Ryan Adams! Hit Ry's Cardinal Radio to hear twelve new, thrashy tracks from what (we assume) is one of the seven records he'll be releasing this year. Sounds like a jacked-up Whiskeytown!

The album (and the odd track) is introduced by Chuck Norris audio clips, peppered with rooster crows, and is all about pills and liquor (something about being punk, we think) -- and the first three tracks are strongest. "Track 2" is an ode to controlled substances, with Walker Ranger enumerating a list of party favors before Ryan screams, "You can't make us go to jail if we take a bunch of pills!" (It also has a reference to "watching Kiera Knightly on the Late Show ... watching Kiera Knightly interviewed on the Late Show," which we remember him going on about at Bowery.) And "Track 3" is the best one-minute song you'll hear all day. (We promise.)

Is he a convincing punk? Better question: Where to next, Ryan? We're giving in. It's sorta fun to watch him try on all of these outfits. Just please, keep him away from the eyeliner. And if anyone has some stream-ripping skills, send us MP3s!

UPDATE: WTF! Is he writing songs as we post?! Appears there's 36 tracks up there now. Should be a few hundred by lunch time.

Wow, that is terrible. Up to now, I have been a Ryan apologist; no more. Fuck you Abraham Lincoln? (Track 15) I can imagine few less creative, less interesting things to say. Not punk, just boring. Maybe Ryan was referring to Lincoln's questionable moves to suspend habeas corpus rights during the civil war. I hope this is all a joke, and that I have no sense of humor. If not, I might have to jump on the hating Ryan Adams bandwagon.

what next, ryan? maybe he can try fucking off and disappearing for the next 85 years. til he's, like, dead. and i'm not jumping on the ryan adams hate bandwagon. i've always disliked this chimp.

i just had a thought: what if 85 years isn't enough? what if he's some kind of cyborg and he'll NEVER DIE? what if he starts making robot love music in the year 2175 and starts a new revolution and i have to come back from the dead and listen to it and it makes me dance? ah shit.

has everyone forgotten whiskeytown? and heartbreaker? I know that was a while ago but they are still some of my favorite records of all time.

let him fuck around, in my mind, he can do no wrong.

No, not that Abraham Lincoln...the one he's telling to fuck off is this black dude that lives down by my way.

has anyone else noticed that the track time doesn't stop when the short punk song is over?? im hoping he's doing something stupid and hiding the real songs behind these pretty ridiculous punk songs

Those last dozen songs (25-36) are actually pretty good (considering the fact that they're under a minute and filled with cowbells, roosters and machine gun fire). The thing about Ryan is he doesn't take this kind of stuff seriously...all you RA Haters act like he thinks this stuff is just brilliant when he's really just messing around and having fun...

But you can't deny that he has created some amazing music over the past decade or so...

Yes, how dare he fuck around and make a bunch of tossed off punk songs available on his web site. That Ryan Adams is always out to get us.

It's not he marketed this as a serious album and you spent a bunch of money on it. Is it a bit indulgent? Perhaps. But then again the guy could write the next Harvest and all his haters would find reason to bitch.

Um, he's done punk before, this is nothing new, rather strange, but not out of character. Anyone rememeber The Fuck???

I thought "Cold Roses" was a darn fine album and "Let It Ride" should have been an alt-country hit... That said, dude needs to take a vacation. Even Robert Pollard learned (sort of) that you can't release every little fart 'n titter and expect people to care.

I sure don't. I passed on all the records after "Cold Roses" due to extreme lack of interest.

Oh, for crying out loud!! "He's mad!!" "He can't relese everything he thinks!" "Oh, now I have to hate him because he is'nt being serious ALL THE TIME!! " Why is he doing this to ME!!" Seriously, people, I saw him in concert the other day. It was brilliant. 3 hours of non stop music. Ryan in a great mood. Hammering down Pepsi Max and joking about that and everything else. That is who he is! A great musician, who is not afraid to make the kind of music HE wants to make, and is not afraid to put it up on his website. HIS website. And he does'nt feel that he has to ask for permission to joke around a little. Perhaps all you "haters" should try not being so boringly serious about this stuff... It's only music, you know...

As a 32 yr old lawyer, I have drowned my depression with RA and Whiskeytown over the years. I plan on taking these new tunes and the old school skateboard out and "hate" skating the local park until I break the stick or my neck. Refreshing change of pace.

I would buy these songs, including the song on the website homepage (.com motherf***er) and the drinking songs on the teleport section. The rooster, whistle, handclaps, and other sound effects are a nice touch. I can't help but wonder if there is cause for concern regarding the drinking songs. I get into some bad spots as far as drinking is concerned and enjoy listening to Ryan Adams while in an altered state. For whatever reason these songs make me think of Nirvana's song I Hate Myself and want to die. Everyone was so shocked when Kurt killed himself but it wasn't like he didn't express his unhappiness with life. Anyway.......hope the Ryan Adams songs are just for fun and Ryan is not finding himself in a bad spot. Damn, those songs are awesome regardless.

Maybe, at some point, you get tired of making songs which are "very long and sappy". I would understand that.
I just don't think he wants anyone to figure him out or to understand him. Probably the reason for these songs. But what do I know. I'm just part of the audience...as we say in Denmark: "Det er måske bare ikke så skide sjovt når jeg fortæller at min hud ikke kan tåle tusch".
