New Lansing-Dreiden - "Thrillz Drink"

The schizophrenic take on '80s new wave of L-D's "A Line You Can Cross" earned them a Band To Watch tag earlier this year, so we were psyched to hear the anonymous art collective's new, self-released project. They've called the record D.I. by D.D., and it's a ten track record of "hip-hop inflected renditions" of the songs from this year's Dividing Island. The "D.D." is Miami producer Dazzle D, and this premiere is Dazzle's reinterpretation of "A Line."

Lansing-Dreiden - "Thrillz Drink" (MP3)

It's under two minutes, with Dazzle cooking up new beats, rearranging the original, and taking it in a new direction, all while trying not to violate the original's vibe. No release date on the project yet, but more info (and another MP3) is available here.

Enjoy.

Bringin some of the more subtle + interesting elements up (deservedly) higher in the mix here, innit? I tell ya, I've been putting the original track on mixes for 6 months now and still haven't tired of it. Good spot, Gum.

Eh, nothing original here.
This reinterpretation just makes the sample more obvious. The sample is the intro to Prefab Sprout's "Hey Manhattan!" and throws an updated groove on it.

Prefab Sprout's Paddy McAloon is in the same stratosphere as Brian Wilson with regard to solid pop songwriting. Pity it takes a regurgitation for him to even get any credit.
