New Bright Eyes - "Tourist Trap"
The first tracks from the Four Winds EP we mentioned last month are surfacing, and they're sure to please fans of Conor's sensitive, acoustic side. "Tourist Trap" is a slow slice of campfire country folk, with a little piano and harmonica to flesh out the scene. That's a nice track...reminiscent of the 'Wide Awake..' songs.
To be honest, Bright Eyes is only good at songs like that...the entire Lifted album made me cringe, with the exception of maybe 'Lover I don't have to love' and 'nothing gets crossed out'. 'the big picture' is probably the most embarassing songs he's done. can't even listen to it. there was even some shitty shit on the opening track of im wide awake. that narration shite he did.
do yerself a favour conor, stop trying to build up some stupid sort of mystique around yerself and stick to playing the good country songs.

James, why don't ya qualify what you mean by "just country songs" - are you saying it's easy to write a good country song, a country song that sells? If that's what you're implying, you've obviously never been to Nashville. You've never seen an entire city full of people who would kill to write one of those good,sellable, country songs.
But maybe you're saying 'people only like them because they're country songs' - was that it?

i never realized how much of a dispute people could have towards conor's music. country sounding or not all his work is amazing. i've been listening to his music for the past 4 years and i mean, listen to his stories, they just get better. :]

So whoever thinks that Conor is trying to build a specific reputation for himself needs to back off. The diversity in his pieces, the meaning, the composition, the lyrics, the feeling portrayed, show that he is simple speaking his mind and trying to make a dent in our screwed up society. He has beautiful views and his opinions have meaning. Maybe you should grow a backbone and come to realize that he has a point to stand up for his views.

Stop the debate about what kind of things work for conor and what doesn't. The point is not whether he can write a good country tune; the fact of the matter is that some songs he writes will be good and some will not. I rather enjoy this one, though.
