Urban Outfitters Stitch Up A Seamless Lineup

Less surprised by bands choosing to play Urban Outfitters (remember, they're selling Cat Power shirts) than by the quality lineup they've pulled together. The Free Yr Radio tour, to benefit indie radio stations, is touring some of the nation's Urban Outfitter locations, bringing some high-caliber bands to places that probably don't see 'em often (Lawrence, KS!). The lineup includes:

Klaxons
The Ponys
Voxtrot
The Long Winters
Annuals
Man Man
The Rapture
Rogue Wave
Tapes 'N Tapes
Dinosaur Jr
Might wanna time your next apparel-purchasing trip accordingly. But don't forget kids, Urban Outfitters are thieves. Free Yr Radio dates and locations after the jump.

04/15 - Chicago, IL (Klaxons)
04/24 - Lawrence, KS (The Ponys)
04/28 - Houston, TX (Voxtrot)
05/01 - Seattle, WA (The Long Winters)
05/09 - Durham, NC (Annuals)
05/19 - Boulder, CO (Man Man)
05/21 - Philadelphia, PA (The Rapture)
05/25 - Santa Cruz, CA (Rogue Wave)
06/05 - Minneapolis, MN (Tapes 'N Tapes)
06/11 - Cambridge, MA (Dinosaur Jr)

One more TBA.

YOU SUCK DICK! that's right you really do. REALLY! i think its pretty dang silly and rude and mean to label Lawrence as some place that "high caliber" bands wouldn't frequent. that's bull shit. Lawrence is the most lovely liberal hub of the mid west so you can take your ignorance and ferment it, in your ass. hole. plust shitty dance indie bands shouldn't necessarily be labeld as hot commodity good times. im pretty angry. but i feel a little better now. just realize that before you say mean things about a place you better damn well visit it. god you guys suck. also WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU POST THIS 4 DAYS AFTER THEY PLAYED IN WICKER PARK? god you suck so bad. do you have brains? you shitty little college interns. uuughh.

Didn't mean it pejoratively, Gerald! Just that we don't often see Lawrence on tour date releases. Now we know you get the bands! Sorry 'bout that.

Amrit, don't apologize to gerald. he sounds like a serious jackass anyway. seriously, do they not teach basic grammar/spelling at 'the most lovely liberal hub of the mid west'? Get over it, douche,
you have to try pretty (or should I say 'purty') hard to be insulted from a mild comment like that.

Will Urban Outfitters sell those HI-larious "Only Old People Vote" t-shirts that they had in their stores a couple of years ago? Dickheads.

Is it true that the president of Urban Outfitters, Richard Hayne, contributed over $10,000 to Republican Senator Rick Santorum? How the f@#! is that liberal? That's just evil.

Don't overlook the the great musical celebration that is ComFest! Legend has it GMPD has outperformed both Man-Man AND the Rapture. Word on the urban street is they are the headliners.

I am completely shocked that these bands would associate themselves in any way with Urban Outfitters. Wait, no I'm not, they are getting paid or using UO to leapfrog their cd on the CMJ charts. Yawn. Really, very very shocked. These bands should know better. I know some of them.

Damn I'm really sorry that guy Gerald went off like that. He really misrepresents what Lawrence is all about but I'm sure he had good intentions. Anyway, Lawrence does get some really great acts despite it's small size. If you're interested in our music scene you should check out www.beatlawrence.com or just www.lawrence.com

For instance we've had Dirty on Purpose, Besnard Lakes, Yo La Tengo, Neko Case and The Shins in the last month or so just to name a few that I remember. Last year we had 'gum favorites The Hold Steady and other Urban Outfitter favorites like The Secret Machines, Broken Social Scene, and Death Cab and that's really just the tip of the iceberg.

Lawrence is a FANTASTIC town! Great music scene, great community, great girls, and a conducive atmosphere for the arts.

How dare you Stereogum for bashing one of America's great, small town, rock towns!

Don't bash something you know nothing about.

I just read the comment about Lawrence and had to chime in... I wasn't going to bash you but you should really go to a place, or learn about it before stereotyping only because it is in Kansas. I am KU grad and it is one of the great, great cities in the country. Music scene is fantastic, and it is a very liberal place. So next time be more careful.

YOU should be more careful. look, i live in a big city, and you just don't get as many shows as we do. i went to school in a small town, so i know. and i don't hate. i just mean, good fucking god. no one slammed the music scene. they just said you probably don't get these kind of bands as often. and they're right. get over yourselves.

ok. i'm better now.

Lawrence is a great place for music in the midwest and will continue to be. The people there are proud of what the have going (and have had going for quite some time), and that is wonderful.

Appleseed Cast moved there on purpose from LA afterall.

Did you know the late great writer William S. Burroughs lived in Lawrence? People of the likes like Kurt Cobain would even visit him there as well. I had a friend who worked in a record shop there who used to see people like David Byrne or even Henry Rollins sitting and meditating on Mass Street.

You would be amazed the people who show up there...

Great town!

Lawrence is where artists go to skip St. Louis. There, or Columbia, MO (if not Chicago). Every other month, a great venue (or not-so-great, even) closes here. It's pathetic.

it's official. arcade fire are more legendary than dinosaur jr have ever been. those fucks sold their souls to urban outfitters just for some rigged cash, a luxurious tourbus because they're too pussy to stay in a tourvan, and some food because these pussies are tired of being starving artists that they would sell their souls and cred just for a fucking loaf of bread. boo-hoo-hoo-fucking-hoo! arcade fire would never do shit like this, and they're still selling more records than any other so-called "indie" bands wished they did. klaxons, voxtrot, annuals, man man, the rapture, rogue wave, tapes n tapes, and all those other bands who sold their integrity, dignity, and soul to urban outfitters are dead to me now too, even though most of them were fakes and full of trl suck to begin with.

I love Lawrence and the music scene there, but I also don't get offended at Kansas jabs. Mix the two, it's fine with me.

I live in Lawrence. No hate here, I understand the misconceptions about Kansas, but we are a great city. We have a fantastic music scene and, while we don't get as many bands as say Chicago, we do get a fair amount of fantastic bands. Next week I'm seeing Ted Leo on something like his 4th visit to this town. Don't let the people getting all pissy throw you off, but don't shit on the town if you don't know it (Not you stereogum, you're fine).
