I wish they'd actually GOOD videos, "good videos' to me means there is an original concept, a funny idea, nifty animation, etc etc...not just some dudes riding around in a car for three and a half minutes. But alas --popularity rules, doesn't it? Green Day will win.

    Pity, really.

Really, though...does anyone even consider MTV as an arbiter of musical taste anymore? They banned a video by British Sea Power, for the love of god.

    My nominations:

    The Decemberists-16 Military Wives
    Beck-E-Pro
    Chemical Bros./Q-Tip-Galvanize
    Fischerspooner-Just Let Go
    Gorillaz-Dare
    Sleater-Kinney-Entertain

...and a special category should be created for Eels' video for "Hey Man (Now You're Really Living)--the most innovative hand-held-walking-around-the-property-lip-syncing moonman.

I am a fan of some of the artists on that list but are you kidding me? Speed of Sound? Hollaback Girl? Those videos can't even hold a candle to Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and Michael Jackson's Thriller. Are these really the best videos or the most popular this year?

oh, and that green day song is boring as all hell. i guess... go kanye?!?

Yeah good points have been made here:

    1. The choices suck...that Chris Martin having a seizure in front of a Lite-Brite...perfect explaination for "Clocks pt. 2" video.

    2. MTV...videos? A thing of the past.

    3. What'd you expect comments...all point worthy.

But here's the thing I don't get...shouldn't the videos really be from the past year? Am I facing some kind of deja vu? That Kanye West video seems like it was two years old and has been revamped 3 fucking times and yet still nominated?

MTV awards have a tendency of doing that. I mean as much as I enjoyed the song "Hey Ya" it seemed it was still up for awards another year later.

    What gives?

I mean they always give a few bones to the talented directors who deserve recognition.

For example, I think Floria Sigisimondi has been making very compelling, well directed music videos for the last decade, but hasn't been recognized. if there's any Justice she'll finally win one for "Blue Orchid"

Dude: Yes one of the versions of "Jesus Walks" actually has Kanye hanging out with JC.

I love the scene where Kanye opens the fridge and get's all bummed out because there's no food. And then JC pops up and in a "ye have little faith man" fashion leans on the fridge, to which Kanye opens and was surprised that there was sunny D and sandwiches.

Most likely, they're not voting for THAT version of the video.

I am dissapointed in the Nominees for Video of the Year. Wish they could nominate better videos. I dont even know why Kanye West was nominated, his album and songs were big in 04', not 05'. Coldplay sucks, Hollaback Girl was a good song at first but they play it SoOo much that i am sick of it. Green Day and Snoop Dogg are the only nominees that i thnk fit into the category.

If i were to choose the Nominees this is what they would be.
    And the Nominees are...........
    Video of the Year:
    Eminem, Just Lose It
    50 Cent, Candy Shop
Snoop Dogg, Drop it like its hot
    Green Day, American Idiot
    Daddy Yankee, Gasolina
