wow, mtvu had legitimacy for about a split second. some of those nominees are good but the list for artist of the year is a complete cop-out. more like 'mtv junior high'
Score = 0
Left Field Woodie – (Most Original Artist)
Wolfmother
hahahaha, oh MTVu, how I love...um...u.
Score = 0
no, all these bands are rubbish.
Score = 0
at least for the "woodie" award
Score = 0
of the year
Score = 0
is it just me or should "woodie of the year" be battled out between cat power and feist?
Score = 0
How do they do it? How do they manage to be even worse than the MTV Video Music Awards? Every single artist on that list is horrible. Wow.
Score = 0
I agree with Ryan. Wolfmother sounds good, but original? That's got to be a joke.
The only Woodie 30 Seconds to Mars should win is the L'oreal Woodie (use of eyeliner award).
Score = 0
come on, they're not all horrible, but i have to agree, for the artist of the year woodie, no one among those five nominated bands freaking deserve it -- if these are what the college kids are into these days, i pity them. i really do.
Score = 0
i weap for the future
Score = 0
pft. i hope that's not what people expect from college radio, because we're not playing it at my school. MTVU has always been pretty weak and this year just continues the trend.
Score = 0
Yeah I also like how the Arctic Monkeys are called and "emerging band." Biggest band in the UK emerging? OK whatevs.
Score = 0
You do not know just *how* sick I am of Arctic Monkeys! Completely unoriginal - we've heard it before. The only decent artist is Imogen Heap - I hope she wins her categories.
Score = 0
Yeah, these college kids are doomed to never live fulfilling adult lives if Angels & Airwaves, Gym Class Heroes, Panic! at the Disco, and The Academy Is are their artists of the year.
Score = 0
Gogol Bordello should win most original. Those guys are bonkers. Should win Best Moustache too, just ahead of J-Devil from the Eagles of Death Metal.
Score = 0
Fueled by Ramen is so punk rock and indie and DIY... Who cares if they're distributed by Atlantic Records? There've never been any mainstream artistis on Atlantic Records, have there?... Led who?
Score = 0
please don't say everyone is terrible. gogol freaking bordello, people.
Score = 0
at least atmosphere is getting some props.
Score = 0
As an actual college student, neither I nor anyone I know reps those bands. Someone hit it right on the head when they called it 'MTV junior high.'
As for the actual state of college listening, all I can say is I've been hearing SexyBack around campus a lot.
Which is good because it's awesome.
Score = 0
bands that aren't terrible on this list:
arctic monkeys
imogen heap
against me!
jenny lewis and the watson twins
feist
gnarls barkley
muse
come on people, don't say general things like all these artists suck. the woodie of the year artists suck for the most part (angels and airwaves is decent), but all of the artists i listed are pretty good. and anybody who calls against me! terrible needs to reevaluate their taste in music.
Score = 0
Although I highly doubt it, I hope Fiona Apple and Sia win.
Score = 0
YEAH GYM CLASS HEROES!!!! i'm liking mtvU because they are showing so much love to these guys. besides being a nom for the Woodies, gym class heroes are also being featured on mtvU's the Hot Seat: http://www.mtvu.com/music/the_hot_seat/
