2007 mtvU Woodie Awards Nominations

Good news college kids! mtvU has announced the nominations for their annual Woodie awards, the awards show you built for YOU, by MTV, which you can't wait to watch. Unless you live off-campus, in which case, tough shit. (Or, you can always just attend the thing and witness one of Jared Leto's patented shoulder-grabbing freakouts firsthand and in the flesh). Categories range from Artist Of The Year (Winehouse vs. Common vs. Gym Class Heroes vs. Lily vs. the Shins) to Best Tour to Most Web Viral Artist -- except, ya know, all with "Woodie" in the title (Greatest Social Impact is the Good Woodie, etc.).

Of the categories, chances are you college kids like the Left Field Woodie (Most Original Artist) best -- CSS vs. Klaxons vs. Madvillain vs. Rod y Gab vs. the Knife -- but a quick scan reveals TVOTR, Spoon, Justice, Arcade Fire ... so they're not leaving you entirely in the lurch (like last year, when the show was Fueled By Ramen). Check the noms after the jump.

Bright Eyes (Saddle Creek Records)
Modest Mouse (Epic Records)
Spoon (Merge Records)
Talib Kweli (Warner Bros. Records)
The Shins (Sub Pop Records)

Viral Woodie – (Most Downloaded, Streamed, Blogged, etc.)
A category for those acts that crashed servers and blew up the World Wide Interwebs all year long. For the next four weeks, these artists will go toe-to-toe on mtvU.com, with college students propelling their favorites into the finals. The four artists left standing will battle it out for the (not contagious) "Viral Woodie."

The Knife original? They sound exactly like the sugarcubes?

Is that a question or a statement? If it's a statement it might need some clarification. I mean, I could perceive a sugarcubes/knife comparison, they are both from a general corner of the world I guess, but I don't really see it.

Madvillain didn't do anything this year. DOOM didn't even do anything this year. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Ah, I get it. It's self-referential. Congratulatory awards shows, masturbatory ego stroking, hard-ons, woodies. It all makes sense.

Way to pander to the Psyche Majors, MTV.
