3 Wednesday Covers

Ben Lee - "Float On" (via Robot Mark)

Mandy Moore (Feat. Michael Stipe) - "God Only Knows"

George W. Bush - "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (via RX)

In other news, we are still touched by last night's heartwarming Real World premiere, in which the Abercrombie bumpkin learns to love his two homosexual roommates ... even though one starred in Ghostwriter ten years ago:

Willie '94 Willie '04

Elsewhere, Off City Limits is sharing a flawless mix he made. Highly recommended. Get it while you can.

Weird Question: Who's the other gay roommate? I know about Willie, but thought everyone else was straight. I didn't watch the whole episode...

mayteanna from ghostwriter came to one of my halloween parties at NYU. i tried my best to refrain from making the ghostwriter's little "clue" noises all night long.

agreed. it sounds like the love montage in some andrew mccarthy 80's romatic comedy vehicle.

It's this guy. He spent the ENTIRE episode telling people in different ways at different times. First Shavonda, then Willie, then MJ and Landon. He's not stereotypical! And the midwest/southern contingent is shocked! but surprisingly (in spite of their stereotypes as redneck meatheads) cool.

Brava!!!

Ugggghhh, the Real World was terrible. The drawn out "outing" of the 2nd Gay guy came off as completely staged. Funny twist with the one guy being from "Ghostwriter". I guess there is still hope for Tina Yothers after all...

I always LOVED Ghostwriter when I was young. I kept thinking that Willie looked familar, but then I though yeah, he looks a gay guy from NYC. But he was HECTOR, omg.

PS - Where have you gone Andrew McCarthy?

Sheldon Turnipseed should have been on the show. Willie's character was annoying. Worse than Blaze Berdahl. I hate her and her stupid songs.

Mark -- yes, I forgot where I found it! I'll fix to give you the link.

That Mandy cover is from Saved! It was quite perfect for the movie, as much as you might hate it.

I had high hopes for the Mandy. Great song, and Stipe too! But, man, it sucks. Really sucks. I guess I never actually listened to Mandy Moore sing before. I just like to look at pics of her and Andy what's-his-name in Star magazine.

Man, she's no good. Wow.

I love the cover of "Float on"...Ben prefaced his playing of this song at Hotel Cafe w/ (not verbatim) "This is something I keep hearing in the dance clubs"...so I was expecting "Milkshake" or "Hey Ya." Never thought of this being the type of song I could dance to...just bounce around and sing along to. Know what I'm saying?

Oh yeah, I'll tell you why Philly looks clean in those shots - it's because they keep on using the same damn shots (3rd and Arch, Penn's Landing, South Street and Old City, what is that again? front & Market where the Continental Martini bar is? remind me) of that block and area - they gotta 'spruce' it up for the camera - not to mention that they show South Street when the voice over says it's 'Old City'. Doy. I miss Philly, I wish the Real World would show more of the city. It's called Real World Philadelphia, not Real World 3rd & Arch, damn it !

"The Real World" is entirely an oxymoron, anyway ... here, diverse spoiled kids we hope will fight among yourselves and share your most selfish thoughts and embarassingly delusional dreams with the camera, have a fabulous apartment you couldn't possibly ever afford to rent or furnish! Then just go home.
The REAL Philly would be South Street, the Italian Market, someone puking outside of Ray's bar (let's hear it for Dave Attel and "Insomniac" for going there), Marah's "Marage" rehearsal space, roving gangs speeding along on unlicensed four-wheelers, a greasy 3 a.m. chicken cheesesteak at the Silk City Diner, and condoms and needles atop the crypts of famous painters and the like in any of the old cemeteries.
