A Plea Regarding This Fall's "OMG WTF" Tour

Emo kids vs. indie rockers: Can't we all just get along? The moderator of the Facebook Bloc Party Fan Club sure hopes so. The tour with the billing that made us resort to IM shortspeak is finally happening, and the Party moderator has crafted this missive, asking his minions to show Panic! fans what the Blocheads are all about.

Hi Stereo Gum...I'm the moderator of the Facebook Bloc party Fan Club (lame i know)...and i sent a playful post to my kin stating the following:

It has finally come upon us, the (dare i say and skullfuck the idiots who thought of this) "Nothing Rhymes With Circus" tour [Still Cursing the heavens]....ANYWAY to those going to the shows God Bless and Good Luck; bring Death Cab for Cutie CDs to ward off the black shirts.

Remember concertgoers, the regime of uneducated music youth may be OVERLY ABUNDANT at your shows...if you do find these people unsavorable do not be shy to show them the way to the light...be open and enthusiastic about your support for Bloc Party, that way the fans of Panic! will hopefully be open to hear the opening band. Lastly there are 3 DO NOTs for the shows:

1) DO NOT Lob Bottles, Cans or anything at any member of Panic! at the Disco; first time was necessary, we dont need it again. 2) DO NOT leave after Bloc Party's set unless it is 100% necessary; acceptable excuses: doctor's note or curfew or just don't want to hear a bad live band (TRUST ME THEY ARE) 3) DO NOT have a hellraising riot during the bloc set ( you might get stared at by the musically challenged but your effort will earn you a medal of honor from me)

That's it...enjoy folks

I figured i'd share that with you loveable people...Love Ya Stereogum!

So, Partyers -- will you reach across the aisle? Or will it be a bottle of urine for Urie? There are no wrong answers here; we won't judge you!

As a fan of lots of music (define that how you will), it's always curious to me how people need to rip apart popular bands. Can someone tell me what is actually bad about Panic! At the Disco? I've seen them live (a la free tickets), and I thought they (a) put on an awesome show (in terms of stage setup and visual accoutrements), and (b) performed well. It's one thing to hate on a band because they can't perform. It's another because you don't like them. Why waste the time and energy ripping on a band instead of postively promoting another one that you actually like?

Simple. Because it's more fun that way. = p

But it's infuriating. People still suck in 2006. At least they vote well.

I'm going tomorrow night, and I can assure you that the only reason I will be staying to see Panic! is for the unintentional comedy factor. MTV.com has a story on the first night of the tour. It is all about Panic!'s show, and it sounds horrendous and completely absurd. Mimes, stilt walkers, drum lines, burlesque folk... I mean... What the hell? How on earth did Bloc Party get talked into this. Can't think of two fanbases that have less in common...

I vote NO for Disco.

You can't think of how they got the two fanbases together?

I can't understand how there could be a rivalry... I mean they're both easily digestible bands that don't make you overthink. Shit, either of them could open for The Killers.

Oh come on...all these people belong together, it makes perfect sense. They should both open for the killers, then we could put all three bands and respective fans together in one circus.

Wow, I'm actually in the Bloc Party Facebook group and I made a point of saving that message. Really weird seeing it here...

Equating Bloc Party and Panic! is absurd. One is an admittedly politcial post-punk band of art students from England who are veterans of the UK club, EPs, etc. rise to noteriety. The other is an admittedly former Blink-182 cover band, that was discovered by another pathetic band that might as well be a Blink-182 cover band, who didn't have enough songs for an album and had never even played live. Saying they have the same fans is pathetic. Read anything about Panic! and the first sentence is about the pre-teen fanbase they have. I have seen Bloc Party three times, and I have never gotten confused and thought I was at a Justin Timberlake show...

Oh god. The music credibility debate. How facile. Rock On, can we dial you back in a few years when you whine about Bloc Party having "sold out"?

I say boycott the show as a Bloc Party fan. BP lost my vote for suggesting I support Panic! while buying a ticket. I'm not voting this year.

One person's inoffensive band is another's infuriating mediocrity. That's why people bash bands. I don't mind when people get up in arms (even if it's a band I like). The time to worry is when you come across people who don't care at all about music. Buck up champ, no musician has ever been liked by everyone. Prince at the top of his Purple Rain form couldn't do it and he was making rock/r&b/pop (something for everyone).

Haha, one person's inoffensive band is another's infuriating mediocrity!

I love that and am totally going to steal it from you, janine.

I think it's funny that the two of them are doing a show together, considering I'm a huge fan of Bloc Party fan who really can't stand Panic! and my little brother loves Panic! and finds Bloc Party boring.

We can now alternatively suffer and jump with glee together!

i love how uppity bloc party fans are. banquet was used in a target commercial about 14 months ago. it seems even "art students" need a buck every now and then.

i cant believe people are still listening to silent alarm..its a shit record.

i wanna know what people find in panic! that they didnt find in fall out boy, or motion city soundtrack, or my chemical romance, or anything playing in hollister.

this is what we call mass culture, shit made to be bought and sold, no real meaning, no real message, just ONE verse looped over and over to make a song. i was sick of sins and tragedies before it was over the first time i heard it

if only we could recycle waste the same way we recycle music.

if i wanted a circus id go, put away the elephants and the marching band outfits.

I'm a great fan of Bloc Party, and have seen them many times, including traveling from Central Indiana to Indio, CA to see them, and I would like to remind you all that they sold songs to (as far as I know) Target and some car company.

We're all whores, folks. Get with the times and make with the fornication.

I happen to be fans of Panic and Bloc Party and am excited to see them both. And as for Panic, yeah, maybe their songs aren't gonna save the world. But they are fun and that's enough for me.

Guess we'll never know since Bloc Party's drummer's lung collapsed last night in Atlanta. Not sure when they'll re-join the Panic! circus...

This weird-ass lineup reminds me of the Saves the Day/Grandaddy tour from about three years ago.

[don't tell anyone, but i actually . . . kinda, sorta love Saves the Day. way more than grandaddy. there goes what little indie cred i had left.]

I must say that while bloc party is the vastly superior band on this tour, without a big turnout bloc party would be forced to play smaller venues and never get any benefits, money, bigger crowd, better hotels?, they deserve. Having seen bloc party live, I would dare venture that their show will win over a few new fans.

Okay...enough with the fucking Panic! bashing already.I happen to like both bands, but I'm glad Bloc Party dropped out.I mean,I feel sorry for the guy,but I'd much rather see The Plain White
T's.And I have not heard one other band that sounds like p!atd, they aren't a copy of Fall Out Boy or Blink-182,and their music is not emo!If you bother to actually listen to the music and the lyrics before you open your mouths, you'll see what I mean.

Oh,and the whole "stage presentation circus thing"?You know what,I kinda like it even if is it is a bit distracting. They're young kids trying to find something they like.Let them experiment with that kind of shit. It's entertaining and it puts on a great show.

I also don't understand when people say they sound shitty live.I thought they sounded awesome.

And there is no reason to boo another band,no matter who it is.You bought the tickets, and you knew they where going to perform.Suck it up and listen, or just go hang out outside for a while.
Can't we all just get along?

Now, I like P!atd but c'mon.

Emo is kinda lame.

bout time you gave it up,

Indie will always be around.

But I think that the music is alright

just not the posing, ridiculous hair,

horrendous fashion sense, contant moaning

and everlasting need for attention.

But then that's another story.
