Akon Hearts Bobby Vinton

Thanks to Senegalese rapper Akon, '60s crooner Bobby Vinton can now afford braces for his daughter.

Bobby Vinton - "Mr. Lonely" (MP3) 1964 [Link Removed]

Vinton, who doesn't own a computer, is tickled about the hi-speed soul sample that's put his voice back on the radio. Sort of...

"I don't get it. They speeded me up. I sound like Alvin & the Chipmunks. After [Akon] talked with me, they went to Epic and got the rights to use the original record. They sent me a copy -- I didn't know what it was, but my wife and children think it's great."
Seventy-year-old Vinton also told Entertainment Weekly...
"Akon wanted me to do the video but I couldn't. I was playing the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee."
Cute. You can catch Bobby Vinton at the Orleans Casino & Hotel in Vegas this weekend.

Not to be sour on your pick, Gum, (b/c I really like this blog) but... I really despise this song. I admire the use of old 50s tunes as a way to mix it up, but geez this song comes off as much too whiny woe-is-me.

I should probably just stop listening to hip hop radio these days. Between this song and 50 Cent * 4... just too much.

ok we love his song - we being my 8 year old, the neighbourhood kids that i babysit, and myself. we listen to it all the time and the kids singing it is enough to have me laughing my ass off. and i think it's creative enough to take a chance with a voice mix that was a bit different.

Akon isn't a rapper, he's a singer. And I use that term loosely.

I don't get these rap artists stealing other peoples music speeding it up to sound like it was recorded on helium and then talking over the top of it. People pretend to like it to be cool - its not cool its as phoney as Andy Warhol. Eminem did the same thing with Martikas Toy Soldiers and also got a #1. They're putting the C back into Rap. Who buys this shit?

For the people that cannot get into this century, this song is actually doing Bobby Vinton alot of good.
For one, he claims royalties from it. Who can complain with that?
It also introduces Youngsters to the older music of which they never knew before.

It is cool.
Harden up & get over it.

Well Done Akon.

I haven't heard the song yet, but it sounds like it could be an interesting mix.

What does "for the people who can not get into this century" mean?? People who don't like
(c)rap?????

I agree with Soul Cooper, this song is dong Bobby alot of good. I mean the song does suck and Bobby probbaly knows that, but he's laughing all the way to the bank.

I like Bobby Vinton. I think he is a great singer. I have a couple of his CD's and I listen to them all the time. He's a very talented person.
