Conor Oberst's Conor Oberst Album Art

thumbnail icon: Conor Oberst's Conor Oberst Album Art

As mentioned in April and then seconded last week via a couple of album tracks, Conor Oberst's first solo collection in a lucky 13 years is just around the corner. Oberst is calling it Conor Oberst, so it makes good sense he's also including a photo of himself on the cover. The black and white image (with some kinda Rembrandt-meets-Ansel Adams lighting) finds Mr. Bright Eyes getting shuteye at home in his cave on his favorite hammock, the missus back by the fire.

Remember, Oberst recorded the 12 new tracks in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico and Merge got mystical about it: "In Tepoztlán, a place known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings, a temporary studio was created in a mountain villa called Valle Místico at the outskirts of town." Looks like he's having an Indiana Jones moment.

Conor Oberst is out 8/5 on Merge. See Conor wide awake:

Good call on the Indy reference, 'gum. I think its a cross between that, Sun Kil Moon's "April" cover and Antony & The Johnsons' "I Am a Bird Now" cover. Probably because both of those covers are in black & white too.

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
