Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night Album Art

thumbnail icon: Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night Album Art

Judging from the comments on Kings Of Leon's "Sex On Fire" video, it's clear some of you think the Followill boys, their carefully coiffed hair, good Southern gene, are themselves works of art. Well, Leon lovers, now you can get a look at the image that bedecks the band's forthcoming fourth album Only By the Night. Because KoL are more popular in Europe than at home, the US of A gets its own design, though both covers involve feathers.

American Version:

UK Version:

The lesson? In the States, it's more marketable to depict birds of prey fighting amongst themselves than to take the time to do a Kings Of Leon face/bird hybrid because nobody will recognize the band anyhow.

Only By The Night is out 9/22 in the UK and 9/23 in the States via RCA.

For disliking this band so much, you guys sure do post about EVERYTHING related to them. What's the story tomorrow? Caleb seen with Jessica Simpson???? Or KOL come out of the closet?? If you don't like them, stop posting about them eevryday

Do people who like/comment on KOL threads understand how blogs work at all? Hint: they don't operate like fan sites.

I understand that this isn't a fan site and bloggers may not always enjoy what they are posting about, but aren't there better things to talk about? I'm sure something is going on in the world other than the new KOL album art. I am a big fan of this site, just offering an opinion. In other news.... Anyone heard the album? Track 4 = an attempt to get on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack. This album may turn every reader against this band and not just a large majority.

Apologies are in order. Sorry, RayRay. I'm getting my uber-cute bands mixed up today - I should be giving the little sisters & nieces of the world a hard time for their love of Tokio Hotel. (Which proves that this album art IS one of the better things to talk about today, all things considered.)

I think Kings of Leon are one of the worst bands around, but that UK cover is pretty kickass (would work great as the album cover for the new Mogwai album, in fact). The US cover looks like a rip-off of Ladytron's 'Witching Hour," though.

I knew it looked familiar, thank you. I actually like the color scheme on the UK cover and had hoped it would be the US version too.

Fuck off - worst band around you obviously have no taste at all. New album has been slagged off but I've been a fan since Youth and Youngmanhood and I think it's brilliant. If you think they're that bad why are you bothering to make a comment or look up their album on a website anyway?

are you sure that uk cover wasn't stolen from some old animal collective art?

I like Kings of Leon quite a bit. I'm pretty excited for this album. I dig both covers.

Oops.

I've been a causal fan of KoL for a while, but this new album is fairly weak-- a bit of a bland generic turn after the progress of the last few records...

The UK cover is substantially cooler than the US cover.

does anyone else notice the raioheadish font? maybe im just trying to see it but i definitely think theres a similarity. Maybe theyre just repaying them for calling them good-looking.

no radiohead font... it's the underscores that are sparking that response...

KOL are a solid band. stereogum is full of of pussies, so naturally they'd hate anything that resonates with any individual who has a pair...

I get it. I totally get it. Kings of Leon are album art thieves. Why not get a good band who are not that well-known in America i.e. step forward Ladytron and their art (thankyou kidacomputerok) for witching hour and put that out as the cover in the US. Then step forward a band who are relatively not that popular/ well-known in UK i.e. Animal collective and steal their ideas a la the video for Fireworks where the band have eagle/ bird images projected onto their faces and bang that out for the British version. Add some radiohead style font ( as lets face it no one gives a shit about that anyway) and there you have it - some pretty nifty album art for the masses.

Just noticed this story is a few days old so no-ones prob not gonna read this but though i'd put it out there anyway. Comments? Questions?Still...a good band though. Ill forgive them.

Ive Got The Album Myself, And I Am A Fairly Big KOL Fan Myself, More Faverable To The Earlier Stuff, But This Album Is Certainly One To Get, Use Somebody, Sex On Fire, Be Somebody And Manhatton Are Exceptional In There Own Right, I Promise You This Is Another Number One Hit Album From This Well Established Brilliance Of A Band.

i think it's really funny how y'all make fun of them being bigger in europe, like it's some big eyesore on a band's resume to be more popular in europe or something. and they are pretty big here, too. you obviously know who they are, and then there's like 80 comments on every post about them on this page. but that's mainly because people who don't like them cannot help but sit up all night and brood about them, because spreadin negativity is always the best thing to do when you're bored at 2am.

haha fuck...
if you cunts who critisize kings of leon are that musically inclined why don't you get a band together and try to become at least half as successful as they are...
im sure they are happy with the music they produce and dont make it for your gratification.

Now, now boys and girls - no fighting in the playground! Big in the UK, big in the USA or big in my back garden - who gives a rats ass! You either like the music or you don't and if you don't, it doesn't make it shit - it means YOU don't like it. I don't particularly like Ladytron but I wouldn't go around calling it shit - just not my taste. What's really more annoying are the idiots that listen to an album once and call it shit - your loss. Now on to the more objective stuff.
Yes, this is a slower burner than the previous three albums but all the hooks are there, just a little more subtle and slower to come through. Oh, and album artwork! Do some homework and find out who the album artists are before shouting Plagiarism becasue you really are demostrating what we all really know - you're simply ignorant. Enjoy. p.s. Wise words amg
