New Oasis - "Falling Down"

thubmnail icon: New Oasis - "Falling Down"

I love it when you guys send polite tips on Wednesday nights. "Falling Down" debuted in Chem Bros Remix form earlier in the summer. This stripped mix is the version on the forthcoming Dig Out Your Soul. I'm more familiar with Oasis's publicity feuds than I am with their catalog at this point, but it's fair to say that no one's reinventing the heathen chemistry here. And while this is not the jockin' Noel G. response track we have all been waiting for, it will give you insight into the LP7 album cover (which, along with the song, is waiting for you after the jump).

Dig Out Your Soul is out 10/7 (10/6 in Manchester).

I like it - it sounds like a nice precursor for what's possibly in store. That, and I've always been a fan of Oasis - so yeah, a bit bias.

When you say you're more familiar with their feuds than with the back catalog you sound like a fucking idiot. oasis is so underrated its not even funny.

Underrated? At what, ripping of the Beatles? Sounds like something a fucking idiot would say.

Their sound is closer to Sex Pistols and T.Rex than The Beatles.

Great song. We get the single on friday. Off to a fine start.

Sidebar - the new jayz song is crap.

Mr. Gum - pick up the back catalog. Most is better than 89 percent of the so crap that gets pushed and promted on this and most blogs.

Oasis is so overlooked in the US its freakin pitiful.

But that is ok. We get two MSG gigs in decmeber. More fun to come. Live4ever....

I'm a huge Oasis fan. When Noel sings his songs Oasis is my top 3, but when Liam sings they fall to fiftieth or so. With that said, I'm really pleased with the new track and it makes me excited for the new album.

It's funny to hear other people say that. I can't tell one lick of differnce between the two, but I have a friend who says the same thing. Or maybe it's the other way around--loves Liam hates Noel...

Although it does sound like they are ripping off My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, and Band of Horses with the extra reverb he has put on his voice.

solid. and wow, surprisingly supportive comments from 'gum readers, for now. nice surprise and how unexpected. and yes, i agree, pick up this and the verve back catalogs. some of the most underrated bands in the US.

Wow, really really good. Never been a huge fan of what I've heard on the radio, but this would make me buy the album. And they are touring with Ryan Adams... hmmm...

i don't see what's so great about this song. it's mediocre, just like them. There are so many other bands putting out stuff a million times more original then this. The closest I will ever get to listening to Oasis is Cat Power's cover of "WonderWall", which is 100 times better than the original.

I agreed with everything you said until you got to the Cat Power thing. Sounds like you can't think outside your indie rock bubble for a second and admit that a mainstream band is decent.

Okay, I'm done defending Oasis. I don't even like them that much.

I liked Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory in high school (me and a friend used to amuse ourselves singing "what's the story, school is boring"), but from Be Here Now on, they've been dreadful. Plus the Gallagher brothers are beyond stupid and way too full of themselves. Basically, horrid individuals with worn-out rhyming dictionaries who don't deserve their fame or your money. Anyone who thinks otherwise at this point is probably vermin of the very same kind.

pretty mediocre. The production sounds pretty good mind you(although only in low bitrate), I am expecting some of their best or at least most unorthodox production yet. But the song is definitely mediocre.

better production than their last few MOR records
liking the sort of dance, shoegaze, more overtly manchester thing they're doin here
not that great a song though
liam's voice too nasal as per usual

How can anyone say Oasis is underrated? Oasis is currently 21st on the Top Artists list at Last.fm. (And I think Last.fm is really starting to gain some authority on these matters with their 21 million users.) Wikipedia: "Oasis have sold more than 50 million records worldwide,[1] have had eight UK number-one singles and have collected 15 NME Awards, 5 Brit Awards and 9 Q awards."

You call that underrated?

I've always thought Oasis is extremely overrated. Their sound has pretty much nothing original to it, and the infantile remarks and dissing of other artists that the Gallagher brothers keep throwing up has made me lose even the last drops of respect I might've once had for Oasis. (Well, actually I never had any respect for Oasis, so there isn't really much point to this post.) :)

Great tune, though a bit of a no-brainer for the Chemical Brothers to remix, as the beat resembles "Setting Sun" (which in turn ripped off "Tomorrow Never Knows"), featuring vocals by none other than N. Gallagher himself. Nice to hear him get a rocker instead of the usual mid-tempo fare.

Ringo's son on drums, who has since been non asked back to drum on their tour. Shame since he was the best drummer they ever had. As long as their replacement stays off the cymbals I think it will work out in the end. Previous Oasis drummers have had little clue that toms and snares exist.

My first thought was that this sounds like a cleaned up Brian Jonestown Massacre song, but Doves is a good proxy too. Noel should sing every song. That said, this isn't that great

This song is mediocre? Everyone had been praising it to the extent of oblivion that I just had to hear it. When I did, it was quite frankly unbelievable.

Also, everyone rips off the Beatles, it's just that Oasis do it better than everyone else.

There's nothing wrong with this track. It's better that they are experimenting more than they have in the past and as far as I'm concerned it turned out really really good. Mellotrons, subtle guitars, and it has a good melody (regardless of whether or not it will stand up to their classics from the mid-90's).

Who gives a shit if the drums are like Tomorrow Never Knows? If certain elements like that make the song work, then it makes the song work.

Also, I like indie music a lot, but it's people like all the nay-sayers leaving comments in this thread that make indie music more overrated than mainstream bands.

I agree with travis. this song is fantastic. why can't people start listening to ALL kinds of music again rather than live and die by certain bullshit genres? people need to learn to love MUSIC again regardless of how lo-fi or overproduced it can be and this song may be your ticket to doing that.

Wow. I love it.

It has a nice dark, mellow sound to it. The break is awesome also, the tempo raises but just enough to make it compatible with the rest of the song. These guys know what they're doing.
