of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping Album Art

thumbnail icon: of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping Album Art

Unfortunately, Kevin Barnes is no stranger to public nudity. While nostalgia's big in 2008, so are naked people frolicking -- or so MGMT, Sigur Rós, Muscles, and Lambchop would have us believe. With the cover art for Skeletal Lamping, Barnes places himself squarely in the zeitgeist not only through the nubile naked people doing that frolic thing -- their lack of/ambiguous genitals and the ominous post-Edenic scenery has a Henry Darger vibe, presenting us with another opportunity to mention Darger fans like hep trio Vivian Girls and recent Matador signees Fucked Up. of Montreal, you've got your bases covered! There are even some meat-eating plants that kinda resemble wolves and the tee pee where Brightblack Morning Light check their email.

You could also mention this. Minus a vagina or two.

Skeletal Lamping track list:

01 "Nonpareil Of Favor"
02 "Wicked Wisdom"
03 "For Our Elegant Caste"

Awesome - can't wait to see which of these new songs will be featured in the next T-Mobile commercial.

Isn't it what's on the inside that counts, though? Can't we all just try to love one another?

Parts of it definitely look like they were made in MS Paint... but I bet the album will be amazing like the last two

Why do they have to play the Orpheum? I know it's a historic Boston venue, but it's kinda a crummy place to see a show, unless you are shorter than 5'2".

And of Montreal is the type of band you wanna get up and move to. Can't do that at the Orpheum.

Can't wait for the new album, though. I see they still have some really awesome song titles on there.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
