Okkervil River's The Stand Ins Album Art, Tour Dates

thumbnail icon: Okkervil River's The Stand Ins Album Art, Tour Dates

Will Sheff may have lost Jonathan Meiburg to the "Talk Talk" covering Shearwater. He's the guy second to the right in the accompany photo. More fries for everyone else. But the show must go on. In this case, literally: Okkervil River's new album, The Stand In is being described as narrative continuation of The Stage Names. We haven't heard any of the 11 tracks, so we'll just have to take their word for it. We do know, though, that "Lost Coastlines" is a duet with Sheff and Meiburg, that NJ Hall Of Fame contributor Charles Bissell adds guitar to the album, and that the cover features a drunken skeleton.

They're really into this sequel thing. As P4K points out, the two album covers lineup to extend The Stage Name's waterlogged hand. Skeleton head, but flesh-and-bloody body. The songs:

01 "The Stand Ins, One"
02 "Lost Coastlines"
03 "Singer Songwriter"
04 "Starry Stairs"
05 "Blue Tulip"
06 "The Stand Ins, Two"
07 "Pop Lie"
08 "On Tour With Zykos"
09 "Calling And Not Calling My Ex"
10 "The Stand Ins, Three"
11 "Bruce Wayne Campbell Interviewed on the Roof of the Chelsea Hotel, 1979"

Interesting that Bruce Wayne Campbell closes this one out, vs. The Stage Names's John Berryman. Very different artists with very different deaths.

The Stand Ins is out 9/9 on Jagjaguwar. The band is touring:

and one could beg the offer that the bottle was 7-Up, and it was an untimely demise.. unless it's an import beer with that long neck. I hope someone recycles it - label off.

Yeah, that was "Singer-Songwriter". A real funky number, from what I've heard.

There's a live version of Lost Coastlines available from their WOXY.com studio appearance -- no Meiburg on that version but it's a kickass song.

I think Starry Stairs is the bonus track from iTunes from the Stage Names - it's one of my favorites.

LOVE the cover art.

William Schaff is the man. It's worth buying the CDs because of the awesome art you get. Funny that their names are so close...
