Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks' Real Emotional Trash Album Art, Tracklist
We've only just started picking through Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks' Richard Avedon-referencing Real Emotional Trash, so it's still too premature to get Premature. Though we certainly did like the first MP3, "Baltimore" and its run-on guitars. Actually, the whole album seems pretty knotty, but again, we need more time. While we smash our heads against the pavement, why not let us know what you think about the swirly decor and less-swirly tracklist?

Questions: Where's the "the" in Jicks? And is that a conch, aka marine snail, shell? Whatever the case, the bird has a lot of fingers. The songs:
01 "Dragonfly Pie"
02 "Hopscotch Willie"
03 "Cold Son"
04 "Real Emotional Trash"
05 "Out Of Reaches"
06 "Baltimore"
07 "Gardenia"
08 "Elmo Delmo"
09 "We Can't Help You"
10 "Wicked Wanda"
Real Emotional Trash is out 3/4 on Matador.

everything is great so far about the album.

album of the year. seriously.

Is it possible for Malkmus to phone everything in, in perpetuity? After his constructive use of 'limby' on 'Baby C'mon' I'd thought he'd reached new lows. Then the Face the Truth tour happened, and was completely lifeless. Next thing I know I'm four minutes into Hopscotch Willie and I'm bored out of my mind. Nevertheless, I'm actually shocked there aren't more corny indie fuxxors praising this to the stars.

There aren't too many albums I'm looking forward to this year, but this is one of 'em, even if it's phoned in it should have some gems.

Spiralling downhill since the incredible solo debut, no? Here's hoping the new one doesn't bore me to death.

if the use of limby invalidates those glorious guitars,
then i suggest you cease battling your crippling foot-rot

i believe the malk has always referred to them as, simply, "jicks"," no?
