Sunset Rubdown Dragonslayer Album Art, News
![]()
Swan Lake's Enemy Mine is a newborn, and it was just a little under a year ago that Wolf Parade birthed At Mount Zoomer, but since Spencer Krug sightings usually come in threes (trust me blindly on this), you had to expect a new Sunset Rubdown album: Like clockwork, the third full-band Sunset Rubdown collection Dragonslayer is out in June. On it, Krug's rejoined by Jordan Robson-Cramer (drums, guitar and keys), Michael Doerksen (guitar and bass), and Camilla Wynne Ingr (keys, percussion and vocals). There's also a new guy, bassist and occasional drummer Mark Nicol. We haven't actually heard any of the music, but we do have the album art and track list. Speaking of which: People were getting excited about Jagjaguwar labelmates Dinosaur Jr.'s Farm artwork, and while this isn't as excellent, Dragonslayer is also pretty epic. As something with a name like that ought to had better be.
The Dragonslayers:
01 "Silver Moons"
02 "Idiot Heart"
03 "Apollo and the Buffalo and Anna Anna Anna Oh!"
04 "Black Swan"
05 "Paper Lace"
06 "You Go On Ahead (Trumpet Trumpet II)"
07 "Nightingale / December Song"
08 "Dragon's Lair"
Dragonslayer is out 6/23 via Jagjaguwar. There's also going to be a picture disc 7" called Introducing Moonface that'll include "Coming To The Dawn" and "Insane Love Is Awakening." It's out in early April via Aagoo. The vinyl will look like this:

I hope one day there will be a Yacht Rock like series with Krug and Boeckner in the starring roles. Why not, Hollywood Steve?
Score = -1
Track 4 is fucked up... fucked up.
Score = 9
I for one CANNOT WAIT. I didn't even know, but I feel like Sunset Rubdown are so underrated. I mean, their first proper cd is brilliant, and Random Spirit Lover was about my third favorite of its year. Soooo good, and I didn't even know this was so soon in the making. Yahoo!
Score = 6
he never sleeps! not that I mind, but man.

Here are idiot heart and you go on ahead, if people want to hear them mildly live.

Spencer Krug can do no wrong in my eyes.

Yeah, so I was right, 2009 is officially epic.

OK, so I'm just as geeked about dragonslayer as every other SR/spencer krug fan, but I must admit to being a tad disappointed that apparently 25% of the tracks on the new album aren't new tracks. Anyone who's followed the band's ascent knows that Idiot Heart's been around since at least 2007 (chandler provides the daytrotter link above). because, however, this is the song's first debut on their 3rd major release, I'm probably being a bit melodramatic. Truncating things, let me close by adding that the band should seriously reconsider putting Paper Lace on dragonslayer. it's a swan lake (one of krug's other amazing bands) song from the just released a week ago album Enemy Mine; it doesn't belong on a SR album. If this is the new norm, then what's the point? To fill space? Make Dragonslayer a 7-track album. Make Carey Mercer and Dan Bejar official members of SR, or visa versa. Please, though, don't put paper lace on the album. that would be, for lack of a better word, lame; I'd hate to have to feel obliged to describe a decision of either of these bands with that sorry adjective. So much for truncation.

the version of "Paper Lace" on Dragonslayer will almost certainly be different from the one on Enemy Mine.
Score = 0
while i do believe that putting paper lace on this album would be kinda "lame"
its going to sound absolutely different im sure of it
think of it as "ill believe in anything" on appologieze by wolf parade
and how it sounds on sunset rubdown's Snakes got a leg
completley different yo

I'm in the running at least for Unapologetic Fanatic of Spencer Krug and everything he touches (the keys, mostly :) but gah with their artwork, right guys? WTF is that cover? It's a god damned abomination. Thank the gods for the music.

Err. Suck.

Six tracks of brilliance, two tracks of drivel. Paper Lace and Nightingale left me as confused and unsatisfied as a deflowered prom date.
