Scarlet Johansson, Pete Yorn Announce Break Up

thubmnail icon: Scarlet Johansson, Pete Yorn Announce Break Up

Tom Waits and Cure coverer Scarlett Johansson took on Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye" for He's Just Not That Into You, but she was lying: She's marching forward with the music career. This time she's teamed with Pete Yorn to release a Sunny Levine-produced collection of duets called Break Up. Recorded in 2006, it features eight Yorn originals and a cover of Chris Bell's "I Am The Cosmos." The idea for Break Up, inspired by Serge Gainsbourg's 1960s recordings with Brigitte Bardot, reportedly came to Yorn in a dream. I bet. As you'll see in the album art after the jump, they took his dream very seriously. You can listen to the lead single "Relator" at the official album site (via USA Today).

Break Up is out 9/8 via Atco/Rhino.

Just to be a nitpicker..."I Am the Cosmos" is actually a Chris Bell (former Big Star) solo song, not a Big Star song.

Also...press release says this album was recorded in 2006. Which means it pre-dates She & Him. So yeah.

M.Ward > P. Yorn
Z.Deschannel > S.Johansson

Yet, against basic math, liked this song better than anything on the She & Him album (even with Johannson's vocals drowned in who-knows-what filters)

this is going to be great if scarjo doesnt mess it up. pete is a very free and content songwiter, if not very progressive. no doubt it will have some quality tunes.

Hopefully this is less boring than She & Him. Because that stuff was a one way ticket to snooze-ville.

always been a Pete Yorn fan...but this project just doesn't interest me. The single plain sucks.

so i know there's going to be plenty of hate just because this is Scarlett Johannsen, but if you look past that and just look at the music this is very good. well constructed, with great vocals.

Why is it if people call you 'pretty' it must be assumed your singing voice is 'pretty' too?

How come women are expected to sing pretty, but its okay for men to sing ugly?
