Also The Unicorns Broke Up

A little more singer-songwritery than I expected from the Sea & Cake guitarist, but Archer Prewitt's Wilderness is a lovely chamber pop record that rewards repeated spins. Clean, intricately arranged guitar lines are matched with unexpected bursts of harmonica and pedal steel, making for a listening experience that straddles the worlds of post-rock and alt-country. You can pre-order here or pick up an import now (Archer is big in Japan). Salon is offering the first track as a free download:

Archer Prewitt - "Way Of The Sun"

I think you'll like the second one better:

Archer Prewitt - "Leaders"

If you find those too sleepy for a morning morning, head to New-Black for an MP3 of "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House." It's the first cut from the much blogged about LCD Soundsystem album that drops 2/15.

via drowndedinsound.com:

the four piece have agreed that they will not be working together for the foreseeable future. A senior source close to the band said "...don't know if this is a permanent decision, but for the time being they are no longer going to work together. My sincere hopes are that they will work through their differences and come together to make music with each other. I think at the very least they owe it to themselves. That being said, the most important thing is that they take some time and figure out what they want out of life and the music world."

a lot of people are saying they're just getting ready to be reincarnated [as a rap group they've been joking around with lately], seeing how the band deals with a lot of "death-related things" -- i mean, after all on WWCOHWWG they killed themselves off at the end.

re: unicorns...that blows.

Here I was thinking a new LP must be right around the corner. Come on guys, you're still big, big stars. Yes you are.

Archer Prewitt sounds like a perfect candidate for a sentimental OC moment. I can't wait! Reminds of me of some earlier Belle and Sebastian with a like Simon and Garfunkle thrown in for good measure. No wonder they are popular in Japan, those guys love them some pop music. Nada Surf realized that and set up camp there for several years.

Have you heard the Radio Dept.? Pretty good Swedish band in a similar vain.

Bye bye, Unicorns. Now there's one less band for me to make fun of people for listening to.

So the Unicorns broke up and this is how your telling the world? Do you really have that little respect for them as a band?

Seems a little stupid.

at their houston show [only u.s. show on their last tour] they kept joking about breaking up, but no one took them seriously... nick kept saying things like "good thing we're quitting" and took about ten minute breaks between songs. although nick and alden seemed fine, their drummer [jaime?] was weird. before the encore, he seemed apprehensive and was noticeably upset when he got back on stage.

anyway, i can't wait for the rap.

definitely will miss these guys. aside from being one of the most creative and best bands out in recent times, they are some of the nicest guys you'll meet.
R.I.P. unicorns.

p.s. gotta love the hate too...
"say....let's get known
if we keep it up, we'll show the haters
it's gonna be soon not later "

Good they broke up.

I was already cringing at juts the news that they were going to make a hip hop album.

I'm sure they'll find something else to put their talent into that will sound good.

After seeing them live, the thought of them rapping makes me go... . ~gh . . .

i doubt they were going to rap. they've been making beats on the side for a while now and they're friends with a lot of rappers. i expected some good stuff.

r.i.p. unicorns

at the houston show, they were drunk and saying "i feel like shit right now" and generally depressed. AND the audience was stupid and yelling mean things. it was pathetic/sad.
