You give Paris Hilton far too much credit for being smart enough to concoct a scheme like this to put herself in the spotlight, Britney. Now, that old b.j. video of her, that certainly is a more likely setup than this one. I did a lot of looking around the web when this happened, and it appears that hackers were well aware of ways to exploit T-Mobile's Sidekick service long before this happened. Either someone legitimately exploited the T-Mobile service, Paris let someone see her password, or someone pulled a Wargames-like move and figured it out. If someone asked me what I thought Paris' password was for anything, it would probably be Tinkerbell, her teacup chihuahua's name.
And I'd probably be right.

I think the whole thing could be some sneaky guerrilla advertising by t-mobile. I remember reading this gawker stalker thing in defamer where some girl claimed to be locked in the t-mobile office with paris and lindsey - they had both lost their sidekicks the night before. and there was just so much name dropping and references to sidekicks, that I had a hard time believing the story.

The numbers are real. The internets has been full of clips of prank calls made to the celebs, esp. in the first few hours before knowledge became widespread and they began cutting off their service. I've also seen/read comments from certain celebs complaining about the huge volume of calls they got before they disconnected their service.
Also, why in the world would TMobile/Sidekick use this for publicity. Makes no sense! Would hackability be a draw for anyone?

Checked out the Hot Hot Heat last night on the first date of their US tour at Neumo's in Seattle. The new songs are sounding rather good. They've also really ratcheted up their stage presence too. If you can see them this time around, you're in for a great time.
