Animal Collective At Webster Hall
So Sunday night Jim, Jed and I were supposed to see Animal Collective at Webster Hall. J&J cancelled at the LAST MINUTE (had to wash their hair or something) so I dialed The Cool Kids blogroll offering my extra VIP spots. No takers so I went by myself. (It's right near my apartment, anyway.)
Met a nice guy who was telling me his friend Danny directed the surreal clip for "Who Could Win A Rabbit?" The two of us decided we would steal the table reserved to "Coco Schwabb" 'cause this bitch Coco hadn't shown by 10:00. We had a few drinks until a massive posse kicked us out. Turns out it was David Bowie's reserved table. I should've stayed 'cause then maybe I could've got a sharp shot of Bowie, instead of a blurry Panda Bear. So here's a gig pic stolen from Jakob's flickr.

According to Gawker Stalker, Bowie only stayed for 15 minutes.
With Geologist twiddling knobs while the other members shrieked inscrutable lyrics, it felt less like a rock concert and more like performance art. Fun, but would've been cooler in costumes.
I was too busy trying to chat up Daniel Kessler ("So, um, they're not playing much Sung Tongs are they?") to note the setlist. And obviously, I need some photography lessons. The band will be in NYC in March at your least favorite venue, Webster Hall.
And speaking of venues and cameras, I accidentally deleted my awesome pics of Les Sans Culottes from the Bravo Silva release party on Saturday. It was at Syrup Room, a great venue ... if you can find it.

"Animal Collective At Webster Hall
So Sunday night Jim, Jed an"
Meaning Sunday the 19th, I believe leaving Animal Collective plenty of time to build a spaceship out of dreams and play in San Francisco yesterday!

who watched The Office tonight? did you happen to notice what was playing in the backround at the party? None other than Clap Your Hands. Pretty neat

Does Animal Collective come to Philly on their upcoming tour? Of course not. Fuckers. I'll just try to convince myself that Feels is overrated.

i've loved les sans culottes ever since faux realism! i'd love to see them live.
Score = 0
les sans culottes is not what it used to be. jean luc retard and celine dijon, along with their keyboard player and drummer, split off and formed Nous Non Plus recently. in my humble opinion, that's where the real talent is ("tout va bien" and "allo allo" were the only lsc songs worth a damn, anyhow), and i'm really looking forward to getting my copy of their new record in the mail. the samples sound amazing.

dang! those animal collective cats got all ELO on a brotha! i remember peeping them out at the RAMP in Berkeley, CA. years ago. just two of them (avey tare and panda bear?) and they were beating the hell out of a jacked up drum kit and running around screaming. and there was a dude in their posse who was wearing a 5 year old girl's t-shirt.
now they look like Genesis circa "second's out"! freak folk is the new prog is the old Stereolab!
what's next? take take me home! cuz i don't rememba!
yay!

I noticed Clap Your Hands in The Office too. Skin Of my Yellow Country Teeth was the song.

What's next, schlarb? I'll tell you what's next: Eddie Money comeback!
That is, of course, assuming the Bryan Adams comeback is already over by the time I finish typing this.

Funny story. Reminds of when I went to see Scott Stapp in concert a few nights ago and my friend and I snuck into a set of seats reserved for 'Calderon Monteago' turns out the seats belonged to David Byrne. He chilled for a while, but I think he was bummed that Scott didn't play much early stuff like from 'Human Clay' so he took off.
True story.

i love feels - it's in my top 3 for the year. but the show left me underwhelmed. the pop songs were great - you could tell those because that's when avey strapped on a guitar. but the shreeking bits sucked. guess db agreed.

i always referred to it as "who could win a rabbit" seeing that animal rights is cute and that that being its proper name, but since i went there- i'll call it "hugh could winamp it". yea, i know it is.

I was not at the Animal Collective show last week. In fact, I wasn't in New York last week. Furthermore, I don't even really exist. So, there.
