Another Album I Won't Buy
Sportswriter Peter Gammons will "transfer his journalistic acumen from the sports page to the musical charts" with his first album Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old. It begins with a Warren Zevon cover featuring vocals by Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo, Red Sox pitcher Lenny DiNardo, and Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield.
I'd say Warren would be rolling over in his grave, but apparently he was a fan of these guys.
The weirdest part: Juliana Hatfield and Kay Hanley play on it.

Wait, that Red Sox guy's name is Lenny DiNardo? So really, Leonardo DiNardo? Oh, Mr. and Mrs. DiNardo. That's just cruel.

No Scott Radinksy?

hey Scott, I've heard an advance, and it's actually a decent disc. Lots of great musicans from Boston are on it--if anyone has seen the Hot Stove Cool Music benefits in Boston over the past few years, they can attest to that. Peter's voice isn't the greatest (duh), but the music rocks hard.
Of course, if John Kruk gets his own album next, all bets are off.

I'm not commenting to start no trouble.
I'm just here to reference the Super Bowl Shuffle!

Gammons is the biggest Red Sox honk ever, hence their involvement (Arroyo pitched for the '04 Sox).
And Steve, Kruk could never top John Daly's album: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000078JKY/sr=8-2/qid=1150321327/ref=sr_1_2/102-6055107-3114504?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Don't forget about Jack McDowell, a big Replacements fan who has a Smithereen in his band, Stickfigure. Not surprisingly, he likes a little band called Rookie Card (who i happen to sing for). I interviewed him for the very cool punkrock/baseball zine Chin Music http://www.chinmusic.net but that particular article ain't archived. You can still pick up that issue (#5)!

Scott! I'll get you an advance of the album if you promise to give it a fair review....

Nice one. All proceeds from the album will benefit the Foundation To Be Named Later, which raises funds for disadvantaged youth. So, you know, slag away guys.

Odds are Juliana Hatfield played on the album as a favor for her mom who is a columnist for a Boston newspaper as is Gammons.
On the other hand as she and Kay Hanley both hail from the Boston area it may well be that they just have the regional 'Red Sax' parasite crawling around their intestines. Documented symptoms of such infestation include irrational behavior and delusions of grandeur.
