Apple And Nike Get Silly

Via Hollywood Reporter: Apple and Nike announced yesterday they are developing a wireless system so your sneakers can communicate with your iPod. Sensors will track a runner's performance "and help choreograph songs to the moment."

So how fast do you have to run a mile for it to play Vangelis? (We assume the theme to Chariots Of Fire is built into the sole.)

Most ridiculous idea I've ever heard.

They had this on the Today show this morning... Katie just goes "Why can't it tell me 'Hey, stay away from those cookies'"?

Is TV-anchor humor lost on everyone else? It sure as hell is on me!

katie couric is awesome. can't they just put subliminal messages in our music saying, "put down the cupcake, fatso" or the like, which would save us the exercise.

Hmmm... seems a little unnecessary; like McDonald's giving out Exercise DVDs with their Salads... shouldn't they be giving those out w/ their McHeartAttacks?

Yikes!

err.. I think the advanced pedometer functions - pace/mileage tracking, etc. are the more interesting features than anything else. As a distance runner w/ an ipod, I know I want it. if only nike running shoes didn't wreck my legs.

as for the other features, I couldn't find anything on choreographed music and running pattern on the apple website:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/

...that feature does seem silly, and also made up.

Well. I'm hoping Nike Shoes aren't required because they are terrible for running... All you need to do is attach an adapter on the shoe (the nike shoes called nike+ come with a "pocket" under the insole to fit in the adapter). I am hoping that I can attach it to my laces or something on my non-nike running shoes.

It's not that terrible of an idea. I used to run with a nike pedometer/watch combo and an ipod. If I can lose the clunky pedometer/watch and just wear the ipod, that would be much better.

And, yes, I f'n hate lycra too.

Current songs that results in a speed burst:

The Stills - Helicopters
The Appleseed Cast - Silas' Knife
Longwave - Life of the Party

And when they get stolen the "COPS" theme plays.

As long as it doesn't work the other way around, I'll be fine. I don't need Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" speeding up my sneakers when plodding up hills. However, I will be rocking when I'm collapsed on the side of the road...

How come Nike ads always have babes with obvious implants?

Looky here:

As long as there's Brian Eno for the cooldown ...

Really not sure how this would be useful. I saw the ad somewhere, and it's pretty useless.
