Man are we tired of these rock band YouTube contests. "Make our video for us! We'll pick the best one and link to it!" Fortunately, Apples In Stereo's PR machine has a cooler idea. Design the band's logo!
Send over your best logo/design to Shanna [at] yeproc.com with “Apples Logo Submission” as the subject!Listen to the band's theme song for inspiration.Your logo/design will then be posted on The Apples In Stereo photo page at Yep Roc. Once submitted, you are in the running for a chance to have YOUR logo/design be the next The Apples In Stereo logo!
**Please submit 5" x 5" minimum, 72 dpi, rgb jpgs for proofing.**
Grand Prize winner gets: a signed poster, signed CD/LP, and two tickets to The Apples in Stereo show of his/her choice. "The winning logo will also be used on appropriate merchandise by The Apples In Stereo and/or on their upcoming album, New Magnetic Wonder. Credit for logo design will be included on the band's website and anywhere else credit is generally received."
Five First Prize winners get signed posters and (unsigned) CDs. And maybe, just maybe, a hug from Elijah Wood.

I think that the idea is not pitched to employed designers, but rather people that do it in their spare time and want to get their name out there. It looks a lot better on a resume to have already done some semi-pro design work than nothing at all.
And a logo is more about a good idea (nice and simple) rather than intensive graphics work. If someone adept at photoshop had a good idea, it would likely only take them a couple of hours to put it together.

Great idea.
Maybe you guys should checkout LogoSauce.com where you can setup a logo design competition (free) and have designers submit entries. Members can then comment on and rate logo entries - which may help you pick a winner.
This is a brand new site (launched yesterday) - so not a lot of designers registerd yet - but I'd encourage you to give it a go!
You would have to offer a prize (you are already) and there is no cost or fee to run the comp. We are just interested in generating interest and to showcase artwork.
