Appleseed Cast Suicide?

I've received this e-mail almost a dozen times this weekend. It's not true, right? Who the fuck would start such a rumor?

Subject: Christopher Crisci of the appleseed cast -- suicide

I just wanted to give you a heads up about something huge that happened this week.

There was a rumor from people in the Lawrence, KS area that Christopher Crisci of the band The Appleseed Cast committed suicide earlier in the week which is why they didn't play in the Lollapalooza last band standing finale event in Chicago.  Last night, this was confirmed by a source close to the band.  I have been told that they will release a statement soon.

Band has already denied this. C'mon Stereogum.

Hey Scott, I love the site, but why not bother to check the band's own website before posting shit like this:

As someone who is friends with people in the band this is a pretty fucked up thing to see pop up while surfing tonight. Please dig a little deeper next time.

Yeah, maybe better not to propogate such a rumour unless you have confirmation. Not cool.

in his defense, he was asking, not confirming. and note the 'Who the fuck would start such a rumor?' part.

chill the hell out.

leave the gum alone. you can't always know everything. he even says "please tell me this isn't true". its a terrible rumour but no need to attack the blog that you obviously read for your daily music news.

I saw them play yesterday at the Bleeding Kansas Music and Arts Festival (along with BSS, mates of state, murder by death, etc). So yeah, alive.

this rumor is almost as random and ridiculous as the chad muska death-by-skateboarding rumor that went around a couple years ago.

Yeah, it's true. He commited suicide. I got an email about it. It has to be true, right?

Plus, I read it on Stereogum.

Any info on the arrangements? I'd like to send flowers.

"As a friend of the band I must say that this rumour they started is totally false. I have rung the NME to deny it."

Internet hype-building campaigns have reached a new low.

I live in Lawrence, KS and I never heard any of this. What an awful rumor. I'm not a fan of the band, but that's a terrible thing to spread. This article wasn't spreading it, but it was asking if it was true thanks for giving conformation on this false rumor.

I don't think that's the confirmation seeing as it's dated April 5, 2006!

Please dig a little deeper next time.

Huh, I'm seeing April as well - and to clarify (and confuse), I'm a different Burton from the one above. But I've been posting here longer, bitch! ;)
