Arcade Fire's Beonlineb Is LIVE

Well they've maintained an element of surprise, and we're not about to ruin it for ya. But we will say that what awaits at beonlineb.com is a first for Arcade Fire.

Also, a tip: Click around! (It's in the URL, after all.) Hover, too. And post your suggestions. Shit, guess that makes this a first for any band, right? Give 'em a hand! Or, just two giant ones.

That was awesome. you do it once and there isnt much need to do it twice but seriously, as an arcade fire fan. that rocked.

I had a lot of fun playing with Will's hands! hehe... don't know if there's more to it, will check later in the day. Since I heard the release of whatever is going on the site is October 6th, today.

It's "hands down", the best thing to do when you have insomnia and online at 3AM! And it was funny reading this feed like 20 minutes later.

So, stereogum folks, is there more?

Oh my god, I killed Will! Me bastard!

It's cool that it's totally unpredictable, the first time around I didn't get the water that high. I totally drowned him this time, and I got cheers when I hit the all of a kind on the card game!

Yay me!

Congrats to everyone who worked on this, it's amazing!

pretty nifty. now that ive tried flash and know how fucking finicky and tempermental it is-- this is all the more impressive. im sure the actionscript was fucking INTENSE.

like brian said, i did it once.. then once more. but the second time was kinda useless. very fun/cute tho.

Hmmm...I haven't even checked it out yet but from what I've read, it sounds lame. I guess Radiohead spoiled me with their online news. I was expecting more. I'm off to check it out...

I checked it out twice, and thought it was kind of fun, but it's an awful lot of leadup for a flash animation. I hope there's something else behind the big curtain.

The hype and leadup are the fault of the press and fans. Arcade Fire never made a big deal out of this except to say they had a little surprise.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REST? There were like 10 different pages you could go to when I got on just after midnight, now only one, the Neon Bible song. There was also a Television page w/biblethumber videos, a video of one of there impromptu shows surrounded by a couple hundred people, a Swimmer page with those synchronized swimmers and clips from phone calls, a page w/Tim and Richard on The Price is Right, a video for Black Mirror, and more. Did anyone else see them?

At the top of http://www.neonbible.com/yope.html, there were about 10 different links. This was at about 12:30am CDT. They were numbered:
1. Neon Bible
2. Television
3. Swimmers
4. ? (Can't remember)
5. ? (Can't remember)
6. Black Mirror
7. Dunno name but it was a video of them playing in the center of a huge crowd, like in a street. It was black/white, started all dark, then you could hear a crowd cheer, then it got light. Richard was singing and playing cello. Most of the rest of band was with them.
8. ? (Can't remember)
9. ? (Can't remember)
10. Tim & Richard (video of them on Price is Right

I only spent about 20 minutes looking at all the pages, then went to bed thinking I could spend more time on them today. I saw a post on Us Kids Know forum quoting Win saying there was just the Neon Bible interactive video. 10 minutes later I saw a post from someone that saw the same thing as me. I just can't figure out how to get them back!

Also saw this funny post:

That is quiet cool, but I fail to see why that was worth the hype. I don't see why that wasn't just a new page for the neon bible site.

Regardless, it's quiet cool. I wonder if it's not some sort of puzzle. There seem to be specific things you can do with each little bit to receive a result (drowning Win, flipping over all of a kind with the cards). And if you unlock all the puzzles, you get bsides or something. Curious...

Because of all of the hype, i feel it was a let down.

But lets judge the video based on its own merits, only fair, right?

Pretty cool I would say. I mean, has it been done before for a music video? No. But Flash animation isnt new. So, i dont really think AF needs to be given props for being the first band to do this.

Also, as interactive and fun to play with as it may be, its still a music video. No matter how good a music video is (regular or interactive) I dont want to hear the song over and over again. That's why i feel like this is nothing all too special. Its an interactive site that is based upon (and exists) because of the song, not the other way around. That's why I fell like it misses its mark slightly.

For what its worth still kinda cool though.

But for those who thought it was "amazing," do you really feel that way? Just curious

To say it with the words of the great Andy Pipkin: Don't like it. Seemed like a big ol' waste of time to me - ok, one may argue that most of the time spent online is. Therefore, I shall watch my recording of Arcade Fire's Glasto set on my VCR (remember these, kids? Analogue stuff that managed to run without flash. Imagine that!) now.

gosh it's so hard to please people these days. i guess you can't blame them for having such great expectations for arcade fire. oh well.

i thought it was cool. its way more entertaining than tons of useless youtube videos i've been watching past couple of days. and it adds a little more mystery and loveliness to an already beloved song. now everytime i hear neon bible i'll have an image of win making it rain with his hands...which is good.

I'd like to see a cap-off betwixt fans/anti-fans of Arcade Fire and Hold Steady.
