Arcade Fire Not Scoring The Box, Enjoying Wolf Parade

thubmnail icon: Arcade Fire Not Scoring The Box, Enjoying Wolf Parade

Our pals at Videogum commented on P4K's report that Arcade Fire are soundtracking Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly's new sci-fi horror flick The Box.

Well, now Win Butler's telling the internet to calm down because it's not exactly true. Via Win's Blog:

Hi everyone. Hope you are having a great spring...
[J]ust to let you all know that (internet-based fact checking aside) Arcade Fire is NOT doing the soundtrack to any film. We are all off for the summer, writing songs, reading books, and keeping our plants alive. Regine, Owen Pallet and I may do an instrumental piece or two for Richard Kelly's new movie...we met at a show this year and hit it off, but we are not planning on doing any major work for a while, and this would not constitute a soundtrack or release.

Can't wait for all you non-music stealers to hear the new Wolf Parade record, and that Jay Reatard record keeps getting better with every listen!

Hey, non-music stealers, don't just take Win's word for it, that new Wolf Parade is good. As is lo-fi guy Jay Reatard. Especially when he's not punching people.

Arcade Fire / Wolf Parade / Bell Orchestra

That was one of the best shows I've ever attended.

it's pretty douchey to criticize the fan base that chases leaks while at the same time bragging about your own ability to hear music early.

Ditto to the comment above.

Well, you know, it's not that douche-y when you think about it, seeing as the Wolf Parade guys are good friends with the Arcade Fire guys. Montreal's music scene is one giant, homogenous clique of musical geniuses. Sophie Trudeau from Godspeed played on the Besnard Lakes album, the Lakes produced Sunset Rubdown's Random Spirit Lover, Owen Pallett contributes strings to EVERYTHING...

I'm just saying, he kind of has a right to hear the music early. He wasn't likely trying to be pretentious so much as he was just excited about how good the record is. It's like when Ed from Grizzly Bear posted about how bomb Devotion was two months before it dropped. When you tour with a band, you get their record early. That's just logical.

And why am I spending so long defending the bands I love and their respective front man? Probably because I'm a douche as well.

What's douche-y is that Win is making this sardonic comment about music stealers when he didn't pay for the album himself.

It's like he's saying, "Hey, the new Wolf Parade album is great! Have you heard it too? Well, if you have, then you're a terrible person."

Holy shit the comments in this post run the gamut of retardation. Take a deep breath and go outside people. You are trying too hard.

I'm aware of the relationship between Wolf Parade and the Arcade Fire. I am also a fan of both bands (and, for the record, Win is right: the new Wolf Parade album is fantastic). Nonetheless, his comments are the very definition of elitist: I'm friends with these guys, so I can get their record for free and early. The rest of you can either wait to purchase it or be branded as dirty thieves.
