Arcade Fire, Jay-Z Perform For Team Obama

thubmnail icon: Arcade Fire, Jay-Z Perform For Team Obama

Win Butler and crew made it well known through words and live actions that the Arcade Fire were backing Obama, so it's not surprising that the band's still playing shows for the man now that he's our 44th President. Last night they performed the Obama Staff Ball at the Armory in D.C.. Jay-Z, who is performing every single Obama event ever, was also there. Barack and Michelle stopped by, as did Joe Biden and his wife Jill. Right now there isn't too much out there on the festivities, but we do know Kal Penn, aka "Kumar," hosted. BV has a gushing first-person account that includes photos and a set list, so we can now report that the Arcade Fire played songs from Funeral and Neon Bible along with a cover of "Born in the U.S.A." It was a private Ball of 4,000 and video footage is hard to come by, but we're hoping someone slips and posts something to YouTube because no matter what the elite media tells you, no Presidential team is perfect.

So, Arcade Fire, yes...Wilco? no.

I love that a bunch of Irishmen and Canadians felt their self importance inspired thousands of American indie-types to get out and vote! I

Can't wait for the Hold Steady and Black Kids to go shucking for the next French Prime Minisiter. Seems only fitting...

So wht exactly are u sayin'? U sayin' that only Americans should be excited? U sayin' that the rest of the world should not have any enthusiasm about this? Fuck outta here

I think its pointless for anyone unable to vote for the US president to "endorse" a candidate. That's not to say they shouldn't be rooting for Obama, but any official endorsement would be silly.

Ok here ur basically saying its ok to "root" for a candidate, but is "silly" to "endorse" a candidate. Isn't "rooting" for a candidate simply the same thing as "endorsing" a candidate, especially when were dealing with high profile public figures like Win Butler. So, wow, its ok to root, but silly to endorse. Looks like ur tripping over ur own words there, sonny boy.

My friend was there, I assumed a "Staff Ball" would be like a high school dance with a DJ and a disco ball. I keep hearing NPR types talk about the need for international cultural exchange, I my first though was Arcade Fire in the Rose Garden...

Arcade Fire, like the rest of the world, are tickled pink about your new black president.

That is to say: we'd like you pull out of Iraq.

He's our 43rd president, not 44th. One guy won, lost, then won again. We've had 44 presidencies but only 43 presidents. And I don't care that foreigners get involved in our politics, I only wish they were more involved in their own than in ours. The same is true of people in America. You're better off getting involved locally, so the bulk of your time should be spend there, not just nationally.
