Artist To Watch: Pieter Bruegel Earlier today Henry Darger got a mention in relation to Vivian Girls and Fucked Up, but maybe this year's true crossover artist is 16th-century Flemish painter Pieter Bruegel, whose work adorns Fleet Foxes' debut full length and gets a shout out in Titus Andronicus' "Upon Viewing Bruegel's 'Landscape With the Fall of Icarus'." Bruegel is one of my favorite artists and to see his work reduced to the likes of album covers (cd covers, ugh.) seems wrong in every way. but hey, if it intrigues some kid enough to go learn about Bruegel, what the hell, I guess that can only be a good thing, right? I'm still unconvinced.
