Ashlee May Not Have Found The Cure For Her Next LP After All

Remember that day this year when Robert Smith broke your heart? No, not that day. That day. Well boys (and girls), don't cry! It's all over. Sorta.

Via Billboard:

"I would be hugely surprised if I end up working with Ashlee this year, but I haven't ruled it out," he tells Billboard.com. "I went to see her in Chicago. We have people we both know, and I have some nephews and nieces who think she's really good. I was impressed. The fact is, when she got on stage and sang, she was really good."

"It was staggering the amount of coverage that got," Smith adds. "I was encouraged to issue a denial, but I thought, why? I don't deny anything. I don't see the point. I've worked with lots of different people down the years."

The point is ... actually, ya know what? That's cool. This is good enough. Although, that "New Ashlee Simpson (Feat. Robert Smith)" post's comment thread would have been priceless. Our stock photos of Ashlee and Robert, post-enhancement.

You know, I get that there are artists like, say, Maroon 5, where it's considered uncool to like them, but some people feel the need to point out that while they're not making music you're personally into, they're not sucky musicians, and for what they're doing, they're not actually horrible. And that's all fine and good. But it seems like some contrarian types want to take it a step further and suggest that Ashley Simpson types (as artists) aren't utterly horrid.

Knock it off.

Mr. Smith can do what he wants. His genius is known and he loves his nephews and nieces.

Hmmm... Whose opinion of Ashlee Simpson's musical abilities should I put more stock in? Robert Smith's or that of an Internet commenter who I know only as someone who chose to sign his post with "Ben"?

I'm just saying that Ashlee Simpson likely isn't "utterly horrid," just someone not worth paying much attention to (except for that amusing incident on SNL), like a billion other musicians out there.

"I've worked with lots of different people down the years."

Bit of an understatement.

If David Bowie can voice his own personal Spongebob character for his little daughter, Robert can work with Ashlee Simpson for his nieces and nephews.

No, I wasn't trying to compare Spongebob and Ashlee Simpson.

You know what? Shut up.

I would have more respect for Robert Smith if he wanted to work with Jessica Simpson rather than Ashlee - who in my opinion is a complete no talent who rode her sisters coattail to fame and has no intregrity.

you're all idiots.
kids have no idea what good music is.
the hell with his nieces and nephews. i've been a cure fan for 19 grueling years. he owes me to be consistent and not compromise his integrity the way he said he never would. i'm the one spending money on his albums.

Ashlee Simpson? Really? All of you KIDS who consider this site a valid source of anything but lame gossip should be ashamed. And the poor misguided morons who take suggestions about music from this joke... What do you have to say for yourselves now?

Ashlee Simpson ain't the greatest, but her albums are surprisingly not bad. Yeah it's easy to hate on her for who she is (obnoxious kid sister of famous airhead) but her music is alright. I think a collaboration between these two wouldve at the very least been an interesting listen, kinda sad to hear its not gonna happen.

"What do you have to say for yourselves now?"

For starters.. nice double post, jackass. And fifteen minutes apart, too. If the site is so useless, why are you here desperately trying to figure out how to post a comment? Anyway, thanks for weighing in!
