Stereogum reader Rafaël Zeier recently interviewed Wayne Coyne at the Open Air St Gallen Festival in Switzerland, and got the scoop that McCartney-approved, nightmarish pop bros MGMT and Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O will appear on the Flaming Lips' forthcoming double album Embryonic. Also making a spoken word cameo is "a weird mathematician guy from Germany." You can listen to the Q&A here. Says Wayne, "a double record offers more room to be strange." The band are taking their giant bubble on the road this summer. For select shows, if you buy tickets online you get a digital EP with three Embryonic cuts ("Convinced of the Hex," "The Impulse," and "Silver Trembling Hands") and three rarities from the vault. Meanwhile, Wikipedia seems to think this is the album cover:

There's a long history of "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" covers in movies: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Not Another Teen Movie, Sky High... OK, not that long. But you can add to the list (500) Days Of Summer, the Zooey Deschanel/Joseph Gordon-Levitt love story with the meaningful-core soundtrack (its trailer opens with the leads bonding over "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"). I think I saw an advertisement for it somewhere? Zooey's joined here by her songwriting partner, folk monster Matt Ward, and theirs is a ghostly, twangy take on the Smiths' briefest ballad, appropriate for the last dance at a '50s prom (ask grandma).

The last Pumpkin standing is auctioning off an afternoon meal with one lucky fan in Los Angeles or Chicago. Restaurant is TBD, but "winner is responsible for the bill" so maybe you choose if you win? Proceeds benefit The Songwriters Hall of Fame's goal of building a museum in New York City, because that's what the world needs. Bidding is currently at $650 and you have six more days to enter at charitybuzz.com. (Smashingpumpkins.com says it's legit.) Good luck! Where would you take Billy if you won, and what would you talk about? I'm going with Cheesecake Factory and pro wrestling.

New Green Day Video - "21 Guns" "Did I ever tell you guys about how I was listening to the radio and they played the 'Wake Me Up When September Ends Hurricane Katrina Remix' and it was literally just the regular song but interspersed with interview clips of people talking about how their lives had become nightmares? That was the moment that my life became a nightmare."

The Tonight Show's Triumph The Insult Comic Dog was everywhere at Bonnaroo '09 -- backstage, onstage, Tent City, the Discotheque Arcade, Scratch DJ Academy. We saw the puppet hound duet with animal rights activist Neko Case ("Do any of those dogs that you rescue get to watch you shower?") on Sunday and Bruce Springsteen the night before. But the most hilarious stuff happened behind the scenes, with Robert Smigel laying his Borscht Belt shtick on TV On The Radio, Beastie Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and other festival acts. The zings bite even though we've heard many before, but I'll only spoil one... Triumph to TVOTR: "Please describe your music, and keep in mind that 'crap' is already taken by the Decemberists." After the jump, the 'Roo segments that aired on Conan last night and a bunch of footage that didn't.

If you listened to the radio this month, maybe you heard a stripped-down performance of "1901." Phoenix played it on French radio, American radio, Canadian radio, satellite radio ... those are just some of the radios. Sometimes they play "1901" on TV shows like SNL too. Just yesterday the synthrock quartet returned to NY for a Music Hall Of Williamsburg gig, and squeezed in appearances with MTV's Twitter-happy talk show host Alexa Chung and that schmuck David Letterman. Someone give these guys a day off already.

New "Weird Al" Yankovic Video - "Craigslist" There are very few constants in life. Friends move. Loved ones die. Americans lack the job security they once considered a reliable fact of quotidian life. But through it all there is Weird Al.

Sets from Jimmy Buffet and Bruce Springsteen bookended a day of mellow, familiar dadrock with more mass appeal than the inscrutable indie pop that dominated Friday. Backed by Elvis Perkins In Dearland, the ever humble Bon Iver followed Robyn Hitchcock And The Venus 3 under This Tent in the afternoon. It was unbearably sweaty, and Justin tried admirably to distract us with a cover of Yo La Tengo's "I Feel Like Going Home" while a few Decemberists and Dirty Projectors looked on. The even-bigger-than-you-realize troubadour wrapped up with his customary request for audience participation in a singalong of "The Wolves (Act I & II)." Afterward we heard all the people talking about how Bon Iver's set made them cry. Meanwhile on the Which Stage, the Drive-By Truckers were tearing it up with Booker T. Jones on cuts from the legendary soul man's recent solo LP, DB-T faves like "Let There Be Rock," and an Outkast cover (guess which).
