Babyshambles Signs Longterm Deal With (Clearly High) Parlophone Records

Record deals are a time to celebrate, and we're happy for Pete Doherty and his Babyshambles' latest coup. Hell, we even understand Parlophone's impetus to obtain the rights to the band's next recording, 'cause we're dreamers and believe there will be a next recording, and that it might actually be good. But a long term deal? With this guy?

Guardian reports:

"We're extremely pleased to be welcoming such a vibrant and talented band into the Parlophone label", said Miles Leonard, Parlophone's managing director. "Babyshambles, justifiably, have a great reputation for crafting some of the most exciting music around today, and in Peter Doherty they have one of the best songwriters of his generation." He's a great songwriter, you see, so they use his full name.
Cheeky Brits. Babyshambles management said that they are looking forward "to a long, fruitful, and creative relationship with Parlophone." That's "relationship" code for "thank god we have a long term deal with some fruitful-bountied wankers that will have creative means of bailing Pete out of jail next time he's locked up." Welcome to Parlophone, Peter!

Parlophone are geniuses, what everyone in the media fails to understand that if he dies sooner than later, he therefore becomes a hero to future generations.....that back catalogue will sell in larger numbers in death, and guess who owns the masters...GENIUS!

Morons.

They should just drive around London giving money to crack dealers, cut the middle man out.

Doherty's got talent, just a shame he's pissed it away thus far.

He and Carl Barat together work wonders...

I wish Pete Doherty would just go away. It's obvious that he will never be able to overcome his "habit" (what an understatement), and as far as I'm concerned, his latest releases have been dwelling on the border to insignificance. The fact that record companies et al are still shoving money down his throat is just plain sad.

I'm not a native speaker of English so I'm really just asking: Signes?

i like most of the libertines, babyshambles, dirty pretty things stuff. it's a good alternative to the many current bands who try far to hard to be hip or intellectual.

I think we all just need to figure out a way to separate creative output FROM narcotic input. The records aren't bad at all. Yes, he's a shame in public and in the celebrity of it all, but he's got droves of fans who both love the songs AND love the chance to see him die, in person.
