Band To Watch: Cold War Kids

"Regan babies, missile fears, and international blues. ... Using songs of Dylan, B. Holiday, and the Velvet Underground as a road map, they strive to manipulate, structure, and style their music with honesty." - coldwarkids.com

I've listened to "Hospital Beds" five times today. Great tune reminiscent of Walkmen's wintry, piano-drenched debut. (And I plan to see 'em at Pianos next week before they head to London.) They've already garnered considerable buzz opening for Two Gallants and will continue touring the states with Tapes 'N Tapes in June.

Stream two songs at MySpace and let us know what you think.

these guys are great live, too. their frontman is a badass.

It's about time the hip(per) music world mentioned this band. They've been my favorite local band for some time now and their new songs are fantastic. It's a shame they're not playing Coachella this weekend.

these guys were great live.

I bet this music is really wussy. Let me listen ... yup! I'm not into the whole traditional masculinity thing, but even I'd beat the crap out of you all.

"It's about time the hip(per) music world mentioned this band," eh?

I recall the anti-Spin Magazine thread from earlier in week. And they actually featured Cold War Kids online about a month ago ;-)

does anybody else hear a little bit of the White Stripes in them?

Posted by: emily at April 29, 2006 1:37 PM

This band is awesome, i have 13 songs or so from them - blowing up. Picked up by the White Stripes manager, talking to Rick Rubin, BIG things.

i saw them at a day party at antone's, opening for of montreal. im sure it was them. they sucked ass. no energy, sounded like a bad garage band. could have been an off day, but im not feeling the mp3's either.

some of the hardest working, nicest, most intelligent lads i have had the privledge to know. besides the fact the music kicks serious ass. see these dudes live, it will be worth your while. (disclaimer - these dudes are some of my best friends)

OMG they sound ike a lame French Kicks ripoff... The French Kicks do this... and they do it about... I dunno.... A GAZILLION TIMES BETTER.

I LOVE Cold War Kids and am honestly looking forward to seeing them over Tapes N' Tapes when they come to Cleveland JUNE 3rd! NICE!

I may be very close to those guys, but they are a great band. They are so talented it's ridiculous. They are certainly better than majority of the slop that is going around today. A couple replies to previous posters, whoever said the french kicks do the same thing and do it better, you obviously don't know the first thing about anythign really. French Kicks suck and they have sucked for the last 5 years.

They sound nothing like the white stripes, just because a band was influenced by the blues doesn't mean that they sound like the white stripes.

These men are my mortal enemies. I hope their bowel movements are unsatisfying and watery. Curse them.
